Hello everyone, new member here as of today. Purchased a used 2007 LS460 and collected it yesterday from Lexus Carlisle. Very impressed after 4 months searching for one.

On the way home I was getting familiar with the toys such as LKA, Cruise with the distance controlled function etc.

After trying to absorb as much technical info as possible when I got home from the manuals I didn't find any real detailed info as to how the driver monitor system worked other than the basic knowledge that the small box on the steering column cowl tracks the position of the driver's head/face position. There were no visible LED's lit up in the box while driving and I wasn't keen on looking away from the road to see what happens.

Are there any function checks or other means of knowing if this device is doing what it is designed to do during actual driving.

Any comments would be welcome.

Hi Steve and welcome to the LOC, we are a
friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and
put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer
left over.

We recommend you spend a couple of mins
looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later.

Hi SH20,

The little leds you can see emit invisible infrared. In the dark you can see a tiny amount of faint red light from them. There are cameras there too that track the reflection from your eyes. From this, the car knows where you're looking. Look away for too long and the car apparently starts braking if it thinks there is a problem. I've not had the nerve to try this out though!

Enjoy the car.

Lexus Technical came back to me on how you tell the driver monitor system was working. Apparently if it's not working a warning light pops up in the instrument cluster. Thanks to all who offered advises on this.

Steve
