You Heard It Here First: What Oil? Toyota's Oil Is What?

What an interesting afternoon.

Went to a Lexus dealer to buy an oil filter and sump plug gasket.

Discussion turned to oil...they have it in drums and didn't usually sell it in the 5ltr packs and I decided not to take one they had as I needed a 1ltr extra and didn't want to mix the oils.

"Well this is Shell Helix. Toyota don't make their own oil."

Pointing to the semi-synthetic 5-30 in the Toyota 5 ltr pack.

Moral of the story: any good quality correctly graded oil is more than adequate.

I buy my genuine oil filters from eBay lexus dealers, comes with new washer included.

I agree with you about the oil, good quality fully synthetic, changed yearly with filter, job done.

It's never been the complicated, mysterious, magical issue that people on this and other forums make it out to be.

The car makers give you the details of the oil they recommend in the handbook, there are websites that will tell you what oil suits your car, they don't tell lies.

All you have to do is compare the numbers and letters from your handbook to those on the container and job jobbed.

It does infuriate me.
