Unusual Starting Pattern

Hi all, I have a 2006 IS220D, I had the VSC lights come on last week - brought into garage but he couldnt find any particular fault, I may be misquoting but I think he said the computer was saying something about an exhaust injector - which he said doesn't exist in the car so he was as confused as me. He did a full oil service and the lights have gone but starting from cold is really unusual:

Car will start first time but if I leave idling after about 10 seconds the engine will cut on its own. When I try to start again it will turn for about 10 seconds before it fires again, when I try to take off it will usually cut again. On third time with a bit of revving I can get going - car drives perfectly normal after this, albeit over the past few months I noticed the car having a 'moment' sometimes in low revs. Mechanic away for a few days so any help/advice welcome!
