Change side light bulbs

Recommended Posts

Hi all

My first question after joining the club on Wednesday.  I hope I'm not asking a question that's already been asked but does anybody know if it's possible to change the sidelight bulbs for something a bit brighter/whiter.  They look very dull and yellow, I'd like them to look a bit more like an LED.  And if it is possible to change them is it easy to DIY (I had an Audi A4 where you had to virtually dismantle the front end to change some of the bulbs!).  Thanks in advance

We've only had our car about three months and haven't had to change any bulbs so I don't know how easy or difficult it is to do, but your owner's manual should give you details. As to the actual brightness, bulbs do age and become less efficient so maybe just replacing them will solve your problem. If it doesn't then I'd hazard a guess that it's the plastic lens at fault, which is a very common problem with all modern cars.

I have changed all my side lights to leds on my Rx450h, a pair at the front and 2 pairs at the back.

The bulbs needs to be short, nearly as short as the original 501s that they will replace.  The front requires you to remove the various plastic panels to access, the rears you just need nimble fingers.

Good luck.

Hi.  Thanks for all the very useful replies. Will definitely look at the LED option (hadn't thought about the back lights sounds like a great idea). And thanks for the Lexomanlink.  Anybody got any suggestions for a stockist; I assume the main dealer doesn't sell the LED replacement.
