the value of the calliper isn't the issue, it cant hurt getting a couple of quotes, if its more than a new one, its only logical you get new, but refurbished ones are perfectly fine to use,

but if you want to try it yourself, slider pin kits and seals can be bought relatively inexpensively.

It actually depends, because if we talking about a company just replacing rubbers and slider pins - then yes I agree that it should not cost more than new. But from what I have seen all companies refurbishing callipers usually include painting etc. So then it becomes apples to oranges comparison and it can reasonably cost more than new depending on the paint choice.

Breakers charge up to £50 for a used caliper where they have little or no idea what operating condition it's in. New, they're around £120ish.

I'd imagine you could sell a refurbed caliper for around £80 so if that makes a profit then it could be worth doing

I am curious to know how much a professional refurb would cost. This place offers three levels of repair/refurb

I got lucky, got one from a breakers and then bought a slide pin kit off ebay in total I spend £60, works perfectly.

maybe you have a link for slider pins, as I found quite a few for mk1, but was struggling to find mk2 pins kit.

I suppose the OP has got things sorted by now being as it was from February, but for future reference if anyone needs it, Car Parts Direct are a great company to deal with. Very reasonable pricing, very knowledgeable and helpful, speedy - in fact, all-round 'good eggs'
