Steering wheel making a noise when repositioning on startup

Hi everybody my name is Steve the proud owner of a Lexus GS 430 05 plate with 36000 miles on the clock when I start my car and the steering repositions it makes a noise but not when you play with the switch up or down or in or out only on startup any help would appreciate

Hi Steve,

I used to have the same problem on my LS400.

It turned out to be a poor connection on the Battery.

When the key first goes in the slot the steering column starts to move before the alternator is providing the juice so it is relying on the Battery for all the power. Mine also used to judder and groan when I took the key out of the barrel .

A cheap fix if it works for you.

That is spooky I met up with another ISF owner today and ran by him that mine had started to do this a day or two ago, rather than take it back to dealers I just thought I'd check nothing was causing it i.e. A foreign body of some sort.

And yes it was a previous owner had dropped a pile 11 in total of adhesive screen parking tickets, and it had gone down inside the cowling and worked its way into the 'stop parked position ' of the shaft.

Pays to be inquisitive some times 👍
