Is200 Engine Oil Cooler

The UK Mk 1 MR2 AW11 had a 4AGE engine which 1.6l 16v OHC.

The UK Mk 2 MR2 non turbo '89 - '92 had a 3SFGE engine 2.0l 16v

The UK Mk 2 MR2 non turbo '92 onwards had a 3SFE engine.

The JDM Mk 2 MR2 had the 3SGE engine (similar to your Altezza but the Altezza a Yamaha engine with a Beams VVTI head)

The JDM Mk 2 MR2 Turbo had the 3SGTE engine (same as Celica GT4)

Therefore if your new oil cooler is for a 4AGE engine I can't see it fitting.

Not according to our HKS catalogue ( which may be wrong of course )

It is wrong :winky:

The MR2 coupe (the odd looking one with no rear spoiler) had the 119bhp 3S-FE engine (1990-1992). This is the same engine that is in most of the 2.0l Carina Es, RAV 4 and Picnic

The MR2 GT and GT T-Bar had the 3S-GE engine (158, 154, 173, 168 bhp in various revisions) (1990-2000). This is the same engine as the one in the Celica and the Carina E GTi.

and 210 bhp with the red top beams engine

i think the question here to be answered is.....are the filters used by toyota the same, if so then the sandwich plate will fit...

on the is200 the oil filter mount is also a small heat exchanger.so would the oil cooler sandwich plate fit, on this oil/water cooler........................????

so, if i can find out that say......the mr2 oil filter is the same as the is200 oil filter i will order the sandwich plate for the mr2...

The way we have done it in the past is retain the original heat exchanger (which helps to warm up the oil faster and cool it when hot), and to relocate the oil filter and use a front mounted oil cooler radiator. We feel that this is the best way to do it.

It is not possible to fit an aftermarket sandwhich plate in conjunction with the heat exchanger without relocating the oil filter because it will foul the inlet manifold.

It is possible to remove the heat exchanger, fit a sandwich plate and front mounted oil cooler radiator, but it will not be as effective as retaining the heat exchanger.

Bloofire John - the HKS catalogue does not have any European models in it. There is many a pitfall in there for the unwary :o

Forgot to say, we can supply a proper oil cooler kit for the is2 which retains the heat exchanger, relocates the oil filter, has thermostatically controlled oil flow, 10 row radiator, steel braided hoses and anodised fittings etc. All of the aluminium fittings are proper die cast parts as you would expect from HKS ;)
