:angry::angry::angry:

Last tuesday I had my front 2 tyres changed, from a frim that specialises in part worn, £50 balanced and rotated. Happy customer.

Today, wash day, started at the alloys as usual, there are nasty kerb marks all round the wheels!!! I thought :tsktsk: must have got them damaged in the snow!! Then i looked at the marks, it aint possible to kerb alloys like this... so I looked at the other side where he changed trye, very similar marks agian!

I've been :crying: about them all day, what are my options???

The big problem is dont have a repecit.... they only accept cash or cheque, so I drop gave the guy £50 on his way home from the cashpoint.

too late i say mate... they are not gonna accept responsibility

Also am I right in saying you bought part worn tyres?

:tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk:

Yes they were part worn Continentals!!

My :tsktsk: just wacked it onto that machine with a care in the world, it bloody pirde and joy!!!

I'm not the sort of person to get really arsy over these things, but the lex is my pride and joy. I'll play cool and see it they are willing to get it refurbished... Arent they insured agianist this sort of thing?

Or should I call Anne Robinson or trading standard?

Pete your not helping I'm just a poor clerk,

£220 for new bridgestones or £50 for part worns

Its a shame i havent got a digi cam, because anyone can clearly see its not possible to kerb alloys in perfect circles

what pete is trying to say is those tyres could have been involved in an accident. These tyres could have wall damage that is not noticible from the outside

Also if I am correct they have to mark the tyres as "Part Worn" onto the tyre by law.. thus this could jeapordise your insurance if you were involved in an accident. They will blame these mate!!!

Like newly imported cars with a non E marked tyre!.. illegal

Steve, when i was washing them today, i have to say I didnt notice a partworn mark on them, this place is propa busy, mercs, bms all cueing outside!!!

Surely thye wouldnt be allowed to sell me these tyres then?! trading standards might get a call... I was told they are fully legal!!

Thanks for your help pete.

perhaps the mark is on the inside?

When i was a whipper snapper with an old Escort (yes ford) mark II i used to have part worns... the car wasnt fast enough to be dangerous... all the places i had been too had the mark on them. I presumed it was there for legal reasons.. dont quote me on it fella.

Wether their were BM's or Mercs outside.. you still have a tyre that could have been in an accident... how else do you think they are part worn? they are off scrap cars!

Most part worn tyres are imported from abroad from countries that change their tyres for the winter months and are not always dangerous .I have used part worns for years without any problems and although would not use them now due to the fact i can afford new ones would rather have a good brand part worn than some of these crap budget tyres and remoulds that are on the market.

Thank you mudzs, but not it they wreck the alloy to :tsktsk: I would think twice about taking taking £4000 chromes to them now. I was told they are imported from germany, and i thought they had werent changed because of stricter laws there? or tyres are really cheap there anyway... and yes I have heard that some are from accidents.

I think the part worn stamp is a legal requirement.

Should have added really that most of the places that fit these tyres are back street types and it as at your peril to trust them .I know the people at the place i used to use when i needed tyres for a car i was selling so it was not an issue .Have to say though if some one can afford £4000 chromes then they should be able to get decent tyres to go on them.

 I'm looking to get a set once the IS loan is done and dusted

18 months to go, and I should be earning a tad more then I am now. 19" deep dish, just for the summer months, and like I said I'll leave the lex for special occasions, and invest in a more ecomonical car or van.

Yep, i found two places that do part worns around here, both back street places, thats what I am worried about

I'd be a tad worried about them being not 100% legit if they only accept cash or cheques and don't issue receipts

I'll have to check the 'legitness' agian.

Right i've been there, got some goodish news.

Bill is very sorry, and apologises for this old man putting them on so carelessly and quickly... he is gonna polish it out and re laquer it!

I asked if he had any spare alloys for me, he doesnt so he needs the car for a day.

Paul, thats another £137 i havent got right now and could be put towards modding.

Yup! Over a ton of metal kept on the road by four small patches of rubber.

I went to a dodgy garage years ago, recommended to me by an Irishman. They did a very dangerous job on my brakes, breaking the rubber seal and causing the sliding calipers to rust and stop sliding. Very Dangerous.

If it's your pride and joy, don't cut corners, especially with dodgy garages who'll wreck your car. Now it'll cost for new alloys if not your life.
