Hi all,

Approx. 6 months ago I bought an F Sport air intake from a member on this forum. I must say that the car has become less boring and the sound/ growl has improved. It is still a quiet drive when cruising however when putting foot to floor I now know I am driving a v6!  Naturally after a while we become used to this and now I am looking for the next improvement.

This has got me looking around and I have come across:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-2006-2013-F-SPORT-EXHAUST-SYSTEM-IS250-350-AWD-RWD-PTR04-53091-/232382004283

My aim is to have a nice V6 growl and I do not want the loud loud (chavy) exhausts. Looking at youtube videos, the F sport exhaust seems to fit 100% what I want in terms of being deep but not overdoing it. Does anyone have any experience with this and is the price worth it? I could obviously go to a custom exhaust place here in the midlands and get one made however my worry is I will not get exactly what they want. Is it possible to give them a video of the F sport exhaust and for them to create a custom one? (I do not want the drone either).

Any comments/ pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes you can have them custom made and have them as loud or quiet 🤐 as you like, had a stainless steel one made for my IS200 and specified I wanted it slightly louder than stock and got exactly that

Other option is a sound generator mod like I have done here post number 67

Basically alongside the F-Sport induction mod which I have also done like yourself it creates more induction noise when you boot it and you get a rear roar quite a lot more than just the f-sport intake but still subtle. It is still silent when not booting it though

The problem I have with exhaust systems is its almost impossible on the is250 not to get drone and get a subtle noise

If you're set on the F-Sport exhaust, just make sure the clips you've heard are accurate as there are 2 versions of that system. The one that came out later was a bit louder than the one originally released. The 2nd, louder system is the one with the F-SPORT logo engraved on the tailpipe.

Also the system you are looking at, states may not ship to uk. No postage shown, i would get one made up myself i do not like loud and booming either.

If you buy from eBay, and do not like the sound you will be stuck with it.

As far as I know exhaust systems on all IS are the same, the difference is air intake which ports some sound into cabin. I am not aware of different exhaust systems on later F-Sports which are louder. Putting on aftermarket exhaust would be best option to improve sound, but full SS system usually has annoying drone, so maybe only rear section change would be best option.

Linas, it basically is an aftermarket exhaust the OP is considering, albeit a semi-official one. The one from the F-SPORT-branded line of performance accessories available in the US market. I believe HKS produced it for Lexus.

Not from the factory, they are something extra that can be bought from Lexus dealerships..Some impressive high-quality upgrades in the range actually - 6-piston BBK, Forged 19" wheels etc. Ridiculously expensive though!

Yeah, they treat americans well...  I am sure in the dealerships they get not only free coffee, but free burgers as well...

Here in dealership only thing you can order is this:

So the options I have are:

1. Spend an arm and a leg importing one of these. General consensus in the US is they are decent.

2. Get a custom exhaust. I would want an OEM looking exhaust. Would I be right in saying just getting the rear exhaust parts, I would not get the drone?

My understanding is that drone comes from removing cats/resonators in middle section, thus replacing only rear mufflers with something decent should not result in drone. I am sure there are other member who can confirm...

Have a mild steel one made. Its the stainless steel that causes the issues. If you get a 200 cell cats you get the benefit of the flow, and a few bhp.

If you just get the cat back you still gain noise, when i have had exhausts made i ask for the oem sound. Which is different due to the metals.

You can have any tail pipe fittings you wish for. There are loads of different videos on utube of stainless steel ones. Noise is great for 10 minutes then

gets on your nerves. That is only my 2 penny worth, stainless would be cheaper. There is a place at leeds
