LS 400 Tappets ever adjusted ?........anyone had them done ?

Just wondering if anyone on here has heard of....or ever had the Valve Clearances checked or adjusted ?.....

I had a MK3 with 204.000 on ...and never had the shims changed to my knowledge....

someone once said they were Hydraulic....but I read otherwise.

The process involved is long, requires very accurate measurements in microns and is expensive, provided the engine doesn't sound like a mark 3 Ford Escort I wouldn't be worried just keep on top of oil changes with decent quality being used.

would the clearances not close up ?.....and therefore the engine would be very quiet......but be getting less valve lift....= less performance and eventually burned out valves .

I have experience with Bucket and shim.....they are very time consuming to do....but do wear very slowly.... because of all the surface area as the cam sweeps the bucket or shim...

but will eventually need done .....my friends 400 has done 330.000 miles and never been done....which is incredible really.

I just wondered if anyone has even had their valve clearances physically checked ?....with a feeler gauge.

I know some mechanics just compression test a cylinder....and if it is in spec....they just presume valves are fully shut..

Anyway....it is another testament to the incredible engineering of that Wonderful Engine .
