Valve clearances now measured again as i could not find my results from the last time and will be ordering the shims tomorrow, glad thats sorted!

Also got the AEM ecu mounted and loom secured

20180603_165649.thumb.jpg.c40342a230b7bf54caee026474d1b36b.jpg20180603_171023.thumb.jpg.e022b657623cf22810d3dcf3f87f04ca.jpg

Also coated the loom on the outside of the cabin that goes under the wing just for some protection, also got the grommet fitted and sealed.

20180603_180119.thumb.jpg.55923659dcd83c83dd58136f46652aae.jpg

Also had to tackle something else which i did not account for.... dodgy manifold/wastegate flange that was warped from welding!! When i tried to bolt the wastegate on the vband clamp just would not go around! So i pulled the manifold back off and cut the flange off using a grinder

20180603_185901.thumb.jpg.c1d3c9bb248e6eeeb0a71d63e88d6c8e.jpg

You can see compared to the new flange where it got very hot and warped.

20180603_185916.thumb.jpg.e2ae6d37f6e3b6f3730264c0f8861d94.jpg

Then flattened off and cleaned up the surface ready for the new flange to be welded.

20180603_190016.thumb.jpg.fd0ca1e254d061d51220bdbe5213a1ca.jpg

You can see here the gap created when pressed up against the wastegate and below what it should look like.

20180603_190029.thumb.jpg.cd5e0d432754fa336f15ddb6a44e2916.jpg

The tial wastegate comes with spare flanges for both sides so just need to get that welded on

More done today, went to toyota to see my friend behind the parts counter to order 9 valve shims........... £10 each!!!!!!! I almost had a stroke when he told me, but needs and musts i reluctantly handed my card over 🙈🙈 needless to say that has set me back a bit as i never expected that!!

Also took the manifold to a local welders, company called megarweld in wolves. They have done a few things for me now and its always top work. Got the new flange welded on.

20180604_103412.thumb.jpg.3ecfeee6cda7ceb3ab1e20015fb725d1.jpg20180604_103254.thumb.jpg.57701e1b5154f5cd15941e11a3d577fe.jpg

Perfect fit no issues, also had 2 strengthening bars welded on to help with the weight of the turbo. Maybe save the welds from cracking in the future.

20180604_103450.thumb.jpg.d02a58bcf60fa9ce55dd02e0740189ac.jpg20180604_185206.thumb.jpg.5bd50c899a868ee6893d293eae4bd3b1.jpg20180604_185440.thumb.jpg.afa59392da8de8d1f66dd78614ef2666.jpg

can just see a glimpse of the crower cams.

Then got the wastegate springs thrown in and bolted the wastegate onto the manifold.

20180604_202546.thumb.jpg.c87726aa988d95f666ad06a1eecbc23d.jpg

Ive loaded it with green, blue and black springs which will give me 14.5 psi or 1bar of wastegate pressure. This will allow me to run quite a bit of boost if needs be.

Roll on the weekend, will have my shims from toyota and valve covers will be sent for paint.

Wow...... been a while since an update, progresss has been very slow! Been away on hol, away for the f1, hard at work and enjoying the sunshine inbetween.

Valve shims have now been fitted and clearances are bang on, still not got the covers painted, been messed about by 3 different companies now, will try and get these done within the next week.

On a positive note ive ordered my cube short shifter for the r154 so once that comes i can throw all the interior together for the gear stick.

Ive also managed to sort alot of the exhaust. I ordered 2 sets of 4" vband flanges with clamps

20180717_105927.thumb.jpg.814b2cd2028f841ccac3852cd64e4ddc.jpg20180717_105934.thumb.jpg.868d486aaa8a77f90200bab6f430668b.jpg

then took these to megarweld in wolves again...

20180717_174933.thumb.jpg.ff4a14440e8314c2be1167fe1fe37d7f.jpg20180717_174944.thumb.jpg.df5b28b75cdadae8e833f9b798b07c57.jpg20180717_174949.thumb.jpg.7142885db4fe5b8d85333341ca10ac39.jpg

done a cracking job of it, apart from 1 flange which was pushed a little too far on to the pipe when welded. It doesnt quite sit flush when put together, nothing a bit of grinding cannot fix.

This exhaust is a beast!!! 4" straight through with 1 very small silencer in the middle, hard to see it unless you really look for it 😂.

Yeh its going to be too loud for probably every track, im going to be running open dump pipe or screamer pipe too so even louder than the exhaust...... but i am looking into maybe a different rear silencer section incase i want to do track days and also figure out a way of maybe changing from external venting wastegate to feeding it back into the exhaust to quieten it down.

Got the exhaust on the car today, just positioned it for now as the rear subframe has got to be drilled for the 1 hanger so i attached it with some mole grips.

Also still needing a down pipe so there will be a little more measuring and chopping to be done once they come. Also tried it with the rear bumper back on just to see if it cleared, the tail pipe does stick out too far so i think im going to cut around and inch n half off.

Got a little bit more done but not without issues and blood shed, not so long ago this came........

20180726_145813.thumb.jpg.6fde1d3b2baffd755ad60a5f994f7132.jpg20180726_145819.thumb.jpg.0c231b41de72ba3606ec77c56d93aa7d.jpg

Fantastic quality, easy enough straight bolt on part and jobs a good un......... nah not quite! Turns out i didnt quite read the eBay description properly! This is not designed for the jzx110 shifter housing which i have so the bolt holes dont line up, also the lower part of the gearstick with the pivot ball is not long enough. This came from australia i looked for an alternative or seperate part for the jzx110 but no luck, not wanting it to go to waste or trouble trying to sell it I then had the idea of having the billet block welded on and cutting and lengthening the pivot..... whilst cutting the pivot with a grinder it snagged on the metal, jumped out of my hand and hit my leg!!!! Needless to say it left a very deep cut which needed a trip to A&E, 4 stitches later i was out!! So left it a week then cracked back on with it.

20180809_132932.thumb.jpg.bf04262ff4f6a6798a0db822cc00ee01.jpg20180810_135212.thumb.jpg.3a55bc92abe84eef54fe65b273d8a0a6.jpg20180810_144446.thumb.jpg.7d1f226043aac189086c423b13aed4ac.jpg

job done, bolted it back on the box but it just wasnt going to work, there was no neutral and the throw for the gears was rediculous!! Literally 1 inch from being in 1st to being in 2nd! If i tried to drive the car like this i would have probably blown the motor as it would have been very easy to miss shift!  The extra hight of the block and length of the pivot had made it even more of a short shift.

So back to the drawring bored, i cut the billet block back off and also cut the pivot back down. I then cut off the block that was on the shifter housing for the standard shifter and had the billet block welded on in its place, also had the pivot welded to the correct length. I didnt get any pictures of this bit as i was getting quite annoyed at the whole thing but once fitted it worked! The billet block has a slightly higher pivot point than the standard so still getting the affect of a short shift but this time i have a feel of neutral and the shifts are perfect!

Also have to mention i had the gear stick straightened as there was a kink in it and i wanted an OEM look to it and also had to get a machine shop to turn down the top of it with a lathe as the leather boot would not go over it.

Added the finishing touch with the 5 speed plaque20180813_150653.thumb.jpg.596263aeb0d26788956c9600285b0e45.jpg20180813_161345.thumb.jpg.beaec0a5f51ba116ec19388d25da760e.jpg

Looking more like a car again now, getting me more excited!

Ive also been busy making my oil return line for the turbo, -10AN PTFE teflon line with fittings and using a boostlab extended flange to clear the manifold flange. Pretty easy to make used the proper AN spanners and blocks so all nice and tight.

Don't forget to swap your traction and heated seat buttons round. Rather disappointed that I've had to point this out to you to be honest Rob...

I can't quite make out whether you've totally got the measure of my technical skills and you're just opening the door for me to tell you how to do this little mod or the guy who's literally rebuilt an IS 300 with parts from space can't work out how to make the button fit.

I'm going with you can't do it and need my help.

I just heated up the end of an old small screwdriver and melted a little indentation in the surround so the button fitted.

Added 10 brake too 👍

😂😂😂 ah i see, the way you said it i thought it had been messed with and put back in the incorrect position and tbh it does look odd like that. Thanks though as now you have officially modified my my car and added to the build 👍

Great work Rob, it's getting there....Perhaps you could go side by side with one of the F Club guys.

Now that would be fun! They may fair better off the line with the way modern auto cars are set up and get the power down but i should reel them in once rolling

Little bit more done, progress is slow at the moment but still plugging away at it. Had some new parts come thanks to H-tune and titan motorsports. Nice adjustable exhaust cam gear, the ATI titan v2 crank damper and a gates kevlar cam belt.

Just need to order a new alternator belt and start sorting the finer details out.
