I drove on the highway today and got a message saying to reduce the oil level. Is this a problem with the sensor or should I be worried about it? I was planning on driving home before calling the dealership since I'm pretty far from my usual one.

Seems a little strange that the message has suddenly appeared without a recent oil change when it could have been overfilled so I would tend to agree with a faulty sensor rather than an overfilled sump.

I would drive it home steadily and have it checked out ASAP, there was nothing wrong with a conventional dip stick which made it so easy to check the engine oil level but technology moves on.
