So when i hit my start button if not turned on in a while a screech r squeel then starts. What could it be??

Normally that sort of noise is a drive belt slipping. I believe the 220d as a single belt that drives all the ancillaries which also has a tensioner. Best to check the belt and tensioner are in good condition, if they are then I'd make sure the water pump isn't starting to seize.

Certainly doesn't sound like a belt. I'll move this into the main IS forum rather than engine so more people will see it.

Yes sounds like it isn't engaging/disengaging smoothly.

+1 starter ... I had similar issues on my renault 19 years ago.. sounds like it it trying to spin up the starter motor before the solenoid has engaged the cog to the flywheel. ... for my Renault I stripped the unit and re-greased the solenoid part (was dry/sticky) .. was fine after that.... (pity about the rest of the car!)
