Hello,

i have just brought a is220d on a 57 plate its got 155k on the clock it’s got full services history and other paperwork after I got home and started going through the paperwork I found something that has worried me and now makes me think I am going to be throwing money at it

on a service last year there is a warning of checking the water levels cos the radiator has anti-freeze stain and the other warning turbo propeller got play and soot round the turbo.

my partner has looked round the turbo and can’t see soot,

whats is people opinion on this?? I am going to try and look for a honest garage to give this the once over and check the turbo

i have attached a photo on the sheet that has this on

I will appreciate any info on this

thanks

katie

2007. .. did it jad antifreezr change. Can you verify that from paper work? Lexus says to change after 10 years.

Properller can be inspected on some cars easily. Not sure how easy it is on is220 but someone will reply. Generally, you just need to remove the intake pipe to turbo then wiggle the propeller and observe the play. Also it should spin freely. (Of course with engine turned off)

Soot around turbo... turbo works on exaust so if there is any soot my guess will be a leak somewhere. Maybe check the waste gate area as that handles the exhaust dump. Or check the seams where turbo and exhuast meet.

Hello,

i took it for a service last week got a good clean bill of health a few little things to do but it’s normal wear.

Anti-freeze....got told to just add water to the anti freeze has it’s a little strong (covered to -50) needs diluting down, the bloke at the garage said it looks like it had been over filled and it came out the breather pipe at the side so not to worry about that that’s why I have the stain on the radiator,

turbo.... he said there is no way a service would flag the propeller up has it need to come apart to see but he was happy with it no soot round it nice and quite said nothing to worry about.

only things I have got to see to is:-

rear brake pads are worn 70% so that will be done ready for mot

brake fluid getting ready for a change as it’s abit dark

Battery is the original one from when the car was made (rare for a car with mileage like mine he said)  so its weak so a new Battery when it’s giving me problems

so one happy lady was panicking over nothing 😊
