Rear camera trouble

Hello,

The rear camera on my 11 year old RX400h seems to be playing up. Sometimes when I switch to reverse the image dulls and sometimes black lines roll across it.

 

Are there any obvious issues or solutions? Also, how much are these cameras? I’m hoping it carries on working till next year when i will hopefully change to a Rx450.

I'd suspect it is the camera rather than the navigation unit or screen. I doubt there is much that can be done other than replacing it, although might be worth checking its connection.

There are two camera models used on the RX series II. 86790-48020 until 08/2006 and then 86790-48060 afterwards. An early 07 plate vehicle could be either so you need to check the chassis number to known which one is the correct one - the newer one has lower light performance so is the best one to have but I don't know if it is directly compatible with an older vehicle.

I'm sure Lexus will charge a serious amount of money, best to try and find one from a breakers.

Why don’t you have a go at stripping it down?

May be a faulty connection or water ingress.
