EGR replacement

Hi All!

Anyone had an EGR problem with their CT200? i'VE GOT the 2011 one and I recently had a problem with the engine kicking in; almost as if it was misfiring and a knocking sound could be heard and everything was shaking! A horrible smell could be smelt inside too. It drove fine, just when engine was turning on and off it seemed like it was going to fall apart.

Took it into Lexus, quoted me £614 to get the EGR replaced and software updated. Looking online, the US had a recall for these cars with the same problem.

I managed to screw them down to £500 but still it hurt man!

Anyone else had the problem?

Mine done it twice in the winter 2 years ago (mines a 2011).
Gave it a good overdose of fuel injector cleaner and drove it in Sport mode very “spirited “ for about 20 mile round trip. Hasn’t done it since. I generally put an additive in once a month on fill up. Certainly makes a difference. I was all prepared to clean out the EGR and pipe from it but haven’t needed to (yet).
Hope this helps you a bit. Pointless replacing the EGR when it only gets gunked up and needs cleaning.

I use whatever is on offer at Halfords.

Redex a couple of months ago, but dropped the bottle on the drive, it cracked and lost most of it.

Millers is my favourite, I have an uncle who ran an HGV fleet and they swore by Millers.

Back to what was said about additives, no amount of snake oil will stop your EGR clogging.

Block, and delete its use in the software is the only solution. I had mine done on my last car.

I've never put anything in my CT, I noticed redex have a petrol hybrid version. Has anybody tried this, or should I stick to the standard petrol injector cleaner?

Tesco have the standard on special at the minute.
