Hi Rich,

Are you happy with the disk that you bought? I need an new version including Western Europe for France. Is it possible to just put in a town name or do you need the full address and I don't suppose you can input co ordinates at all?

Also, have you tried the voice control with any success?

I did tried to look at your picture link but it doesn't seem to show anything now.

Thanks.

Sorry Ian. We've been away.

Yes, quite happy. Not sure about the options you're interested in but I'll try and see what happens. And the only voice control I ever use is to cancel the navigation as I can't for the life of me find a way to do it with a button!

Google broke my links but basically it was just a pic of the disc.

I haven't used my car's satnav since I put my Android phone in a cradle, on the dash.  "Ok Google, navigate to BL4 0DH".  "OK Google, navigate home".  So easy, and it reroutes you around traffic problems automatically.

Tbh I don't use mine much but it had to be updated. And whatever its failings at least it's integrated with everything else. No wires, cradles, messing around with volume etc.

Google Maps is rather good though isn't it? Bang up to date all the time I find. Best of all worlds is a car system with Android Auto which uses Google Maps. Our new S-Max has it and it's very good. Even though the car is less than 2 weeks old the regular satnav still had a bit of a fit on some of the newer sections of the A1 last week.

Anyone know how to actually put in a full 5 digit postcode?

It seems Lexus Sat Navs only accept 4 digits, suppose that is for USA market?  I have purchased a 2005 Rx300 and for £26 bought a DVD and updated the maps tp 2017/18 with no problem ( disconnected Battery method as advised ).

As Richard says, it's just too old and clunky. I use it as a rolling screensaver but use a TomTom for actual navigation - or I did until very recently.

I now use Waze or Google Maps on my phone, along with a brilliant free app called What3Words, which can get you to a parking space accuracy.

They've divided the entire world into 3 metre x 3 metre squares and given each one a unique three word reference, such as 'Paper.Switch.Potato' or 'Carrot.Gear.Pie'. You use the What3Words app to search for the address and it gives you the specific three words associated with it and you then 'Share' that into Waze or Google Maps or whatever your preferred mapping app is, and you then get your directions as normal.

It's so accurate that the front door of your house has a different three word address to your back door. It's just brilliant.

My thanks.i will use that information asap.   I do like my Lexus SatNac generally and have, as said.updated to the latest maps.  Annoyed that although the original map included Germany none of the WEST Europe maps do do.

I assume you know you can buy a full set of discs that cover all of Europe? Only problem is it's £££. The legitimate Toyota discs you get on eBay are usually Europeans splitting the sets and selling the ones they think they won't need.

Yes, thank you. So frustrating though.  It's the trouble of having to swop maps to continue the journey via SatNav.   I decided to buy just the WEST map as it covers all i need except the Germany part.  Once at the Dutch/German border I believe I can find my own way as i swerved in Germany for a total of 17 years
