Service costs and plans + extended warranty

My car will be due its 9th service towards the end of the year.

I seem to remember the dealer telling me this would be a normal one with the 10th being a bit of a monster can anyone confirm that? I cant seem to find anything on a service schedule.

Also if I want to take out a service plan as I intend to keep it a minimum of 3 years since its warrantied for that long, can you take this out at the point of the first service or will I have to pay for this one and take it out from there?

Finally I notice in my extended warranty booklet it says it has to be serviced by lexus. Is this the case I thought this could not be legally enforced these days or is it because its an extended warranty they can do what they like? I have used specialists in the past with high performance cars and generally find they know more than the dealers. Although not sure there is many around that deal with the F cars, much like the dealerships.

Surely someone can help me out with the 9 year / 90,000 mile service costs at least?? Plenty of 08 plates and high milers

The monster one is the 60k not 100k. Some Lexus models need a timing belt change at 100k so he might be getting confused there.

You can take the service plan out at any time. I'd start now if I was you then you probably won't have to pay anything towards the next service this year. It acts just like a bank account so as you have services done the money gets taken out of what's in the account so far. Plus if you sell the car and you've not used up the money it gets returned.

The warranty does require a Lexus service. Taking out a warranty on a 10 year old car I don't blame them.

60k and 120k are the spark plug services, they are expensive at Lexus, a few of the lower mileage cars over six years old I looked at had been serviced but no plug change. Ask the dealer about warranty, they did a health check on mine before it was offered.

In terms of always having to have it serviced at Lexus, I believe that as long as you can show that the car has been serviced with original or OEM parts then you should be golden.

I get my oil changed every 5k but a friend at his garage so get a local garage stamp every 5k but go to Lexus every 10k.  Lexus have never queried it and were happy to renew my warranty after inspection.

If you have an extended warranty then you HAVE to get it serviced at Lexus otherwise it will invalidate the warranty. Additional services in-between the official intervals are fine but not as an alternative to an official one.

You dont need to change the plugs if the car has lower mileage

That's certainly the case for the RC F and GS F, and I assume the IS F too. However it isn't always the case. Toyota do stipulate time as well as mileage against plugs for some models.

Spark plugs deteriorate due to sparking. Not time or mileage. So if one went everywhere in first gear your spark plugs would die faster (more revs - more sparks) The reason iridium is used is it deteriorates less than the traditional core. It can therefore be thinner which makes a better spark and less prone to build up.

Very basic. Lots of info on NGK website etc.

If they don’t always change the plugs do they still take them out to check?

I had my 60k service on the ISF at about 12k - if they didn’t change them I still paid the full price for the service!!

I guess it depends if they can count the amount of atoms left in the core by eye. ;)

If you've taken it out of such a difficult area you may as well fit a new one - the majority of cost is labour. Plugs don't cost much.
