Dual Filament Brake Lights/fog Conversion

Recommended Posts

So with everyone going for the fog/brake light conversion, i was wondering how to go about using dual filament bulbs, im guessing that this would enable a lower power (brightness) braking light and then when fogs are switched on to allow for a higher power (fog intensity) light.

Steve Audio mentioned a dual filament bulb holder maybe required but all thats available is a main brake light wiring loom, would this do the trick or is there something that can be used from a Tezza..

Rob and Andy helped me do mine and we used dual filament bulb holders. Can't remember exactly all the wiring etc as it was nearly 2 years ago, but I can alter my setup using the plugs in my boot to have a standard set-up, have 4 tail lights and standard brakes/fogs, or have 4 tail lights and 5 brake lights.

Might be worthy PMing Rob Fluff as he was the one who designed the original circuits etc...

Get me a set of the Dual Holders mate...

I assumed that the new lights would work like this.

Dim when lights are on,

Bright when braking

Bright when fogs are on overiding the brake light circuit going to the new dual holder and not feeding back into original brake lights. Thus the use of Diodes or a relay..

What other configerations you peop's got

something tonygoose posted and which is what i was thinking

QUOTE (Scorpion @ Feb 10 2004, 10:50 AM)

Its LEGAL there is nothing anybody or Lexus can do about it..

Err, you'll probably get away with it but...

strictly speaking it actually isn't legal

Ever noticed fogs dazzle more than brakes despite both being 21w ?

Fog lamps and brake lamps have different reflector / lens arrangements.

The fog lamp reflector is more... reflecty ??

T.Goose is right, its the reflective part of the fog light that is brighter.

But i am also right in that its legal from a M.O.T point of view, that was the whole point of the thread,i took the car to a local tester and showed him and he said it was fine and it would pass the m.o.t.......then the thread runaway off topic a bit!!!!

Even if you changed it to a dual filiment it would still look brighter as its is the reflective bit of the fog which is brighter as the bulbs are 21w(im no expert on this)...alternativly you could pull apart the lens and spray the inside with a dark laquer.
