Morning Folks 🙂

I am the new (to me) owner of a Lexus LS600hL - just picked the vehicle up at the weekend. It is Black pearlescent (almost looks blue in certain lights) with rear 5 seat luxury package, black leather, full Lexus Service History and (wait for it.....) 186,700 miles on the clock. No less than 15 stamps in the book, all Lexus (Guildford and Woodford). I'm over the moon with the price I paid but have a couple of questions as a newbie if I may....

1) The photo I have attached has corrosion on the chrome trims (not the photo attached that's just a stock photo). I took it to lexus the other day to see if this can be replaced, but they've advised that it's a whole new NAV unit at a cost of £££££££££ - this doesn't seem right as the trim does look like it will come away if stripped down. Which begs my question, can I do anything about it - either replace or respray even as it look unsightly to look at with the corrosion.

Also, the drivers side B pillar seat belt suede has worn away (understandable with these miles) and is getting replaced from Lexus at a cost of £160 for the part plus £60 fitting. I'm getting this done today or tomorrow as I like my car to be pristine. Looking at the car from the outside (apart from a few 5p piece dings) the car is immaculate for this age & mileage.

I intend keeping  her for many more miles and if serviced regularly don't see why it won't easily reach 300,000 without trouble.

I am, however, nervous about the hybrid side of things and am wondering if anyone would warranty this vehicle with the miles it's done (186,700). Peace of mind and all that.

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Mike.

The Limit is no more than 10 years old or I believe 100,000 miles whichever comes first , I know as I have just taken out a warranty with Lexus on my LS600 and after research it is by far the best warranty you will get , price for a 2 year Lexus warranty was £2350 or £1450 for 1 year

Cant help you with the Nav unit suffice to say I find it hard to believe you cant separate that piece of trim from the rest of the unit , just had a look at mine and its very similar but in my case it's Satinised aluminium , cant see why it would be corroded tho , that seems odd , I would suggest a specialist parts dealer and try phoning around other Lexus parts departments just to see what they say in terms of buying that individual section of trim

Don't worry about the Hybrid side it's virtually bulletproof , with it's service history as with all Lexus Hybrids you should have received a Hybrid Health check certificate with the MOT

There is no replacement for those trim pieces. I have seen guys in US paint them as close to factory colour as possible. Any interior trim repair place should be able to help.ill try find the thread

If you are worried about the hybrid stuff, you can get a health check done as mentioned

Certain hand lotions or sun tan creams can react oddly with bits of interior plastic trim. In one of our other cars, some of the shiny coating seems to have almost dissolved. Luckily the next layer down is almost the same colour, although dull, not shiny.

Cheers Guys. I'll get pics up as soon as I can. Been busy cleaning her and getting her ship shape. B pillar suede trim was corroded on drivers side, so after extensive search on the eBay and parts websites both here, and stateside, I had to buy new (B pillar trim cost £176 with discount from Lexus). Fitted myself in around 30 minutes - dead easy!)

The Nav unit is going to be a strip down and re-paint (or I may look into chrome electroplating - the kit can be purchased off eBay for around £90). It's just a shame you can't buy the trim but it appears to come as part of the Nav unit at an OEM cost of around £4500 (Ouch!)

The car is running like a dream, save for a little scare on the way to Lexus dealer to pick up the B pillar seat belt garnish trim - Check PCS, Check LKA and Check Cruise all came on the dash and yellow warning triangle - asking to get it checked at dealer as soon as possible. I pulled over, turned off and re-started and thankfully the codes cleared. I just had the car washed so am guessing it was possibly something to do with water getting into or near the L shaped bonnet badge which takes care of all that stuff. Fingers crossed, it hasn't returned.

First full tank I'm averaging around 24-25mpg. Love the power of this thing in sport/hybrid power mode - although I don't drive it hard all the time, it's nice to know you have the power there if needed.

Mines had DTV freeview fitted to the rear (Alpine) so that was a nice undiscovered extra to find 🙂 - Might also fit XBOX if I get time for the little one.

It had one or two parking dings (5p shaped dents, so I went to Eurocar parts and bought a dent pulling kit for £9! It takes patience but appears to be doing the trick. One pretty unsightly dent already removed. More to follow!). Looking at the car now, you wouldn't dream she had done 70k never mind 187,000 🙂

My only gripe so far with it being the face lift, is they've added convenience entry/exit meaning the darn drivers seat moves in/out every time you start/stop the engine. To my knowledge (and Lexus dealer) this can't be disabled. I don't like it - but I guess it's personal preference.

I personally like the little facelift features (new front grille, re-designed instrument cluster which shows a short startup screen on entry, 5 seat config Rear Luxury floor mount screen). It doesn't stand out as much as my last car (Nardo Grey Audi RS7), but then again it's the complete opposite and discrete luxury I opted for this time. I grin every time I think someone paid over £100,000k for this thing and I stole it for £11,000.....

Long may she last 🙂

Looks like £11K jolly well spent.

Also on the trim, it might also be sweat and grease from fingers has attacked the surface, especially if you sit in the car with a bag of chips while tweaking with things on the console.

Have seen how damaging chippy-fingers can be to paintwork (even when waxed).

Best of luck getting it looking tip-top

For what it's worth unfortunately the seat doesn't move back in my LS and I wish it did although the steering wheel does move up , In the RX I actually like the seat moving back and the wheel moving up and this function can easily be switched off , makes it so much easier sliding my beer belly out of the car 😥

Haha I'm with you on that one :) My taste for real ale has increased since buying a Philips Perfect Draft machine......

Gents,

Thanks for the feedback on this car (and this thread). I am a Brit based in Dubai and do a 60 mile commute to Abu Dhabi on a daily basis for work. After much deliberation and soul searching, I pulled the trigger on a 2010 face-lift with 140k km (about 85k miles). I have historically used an Infiniti QX80 for the family, but absolutely love the car since the purchase. I am definitely a Lexus convert!

Best regards,

JR
