FM radio, DAB and Bluetooth

Recommended Posts

I recently bought this vehicle 2015 high mileage is300h, it drives beautifully however I am very upset about its navigation and multimedia system compared to my 2012 Prius.

FM DAB and Bluetooth works only when car is stationery. As soon as the car moves sound keeps cutting off.

I called Lexus Twickenham, I told them what the problem is, they insist on diagnosis first then repair later? I am confused what should I do?

Get the diagnosis done, otherwise you're just guessing.

From whom did you buy the car? Does it have warranty?

Car does not have warranty since it has crossed 100k mileage, I bought from local car sales place in Chessington. Car drives and looks fabulous.

the diagnosis has to be done 1st to find the cause of your issues

you dont want to be buying a part and trying it then buying another

until you've fixed it you'll end up being broke with the cost of lexus parts.

i wonder if this vehicle does not have dab software fitted?

It might be a loose connection somewhere in dashboard. Just for diagnosis, Lexus is asking like 150 which is a joke
Might be worth trying a car audio specialist instead? More than likely a loose connection to the aerial I'd say.

So you're saying that all three work fine when the car is not moving. Is that right? When you say Bluetooth works, assume you mean you can play music from your phone to the car speakers, rather than just getting the symbol that shows Bluetooth is connected.

Do you mean the sound comes and goes? Sometimes it's on and sometimes it's off? If the Bluetooth connection symbol is unaffected (ie it's showing that the phone is still connected to the car,) this would sound like a loose wire somewhere. It presumably isn't a connection to a speaker as the other speakers would keep working. So it sounds like an audio output connection.

Yes, all three works fine, Bluetooth music plays with no hiccups, FM and usb all works 100% when car is not moving.

When the car starts moving, I can hear the music for a minute or less then it silences for few second then comes back on, FM dab Bluetooth and usb.

The same when I am on the phone via Bluetooth, the sound comes and goes.

I guess you need to get your car checked out too with a specialist

my partner has an Auris Hybrid her head unit has the nav button on the front

but the nav unit wasn't fitted, i think Toyota / Lexus do this so they dont have to

make 2 variants of a head units 1 with and 1 without certain features, for us it was handy as

i retro fitted the Toyota nav so its all integrated and works off the button.

maybe the Dab can be added on for you.

Obviously a loose connection somewhere in the output from the amp to the speakers. Given that all speakers are affected it can't be a broken wire somewhere from amp to speakers, it has to be where all the connections are common, so find the amp and make sure all plugs are pushed firmly into their sockets.

Thank you for great support and information.

I will update later when I get it fixed

Have you tried playing a CD/DVD? Does CD sound cut out in the same way as the other sound sources?

If it does, when does the music track resume? If the sound comes back at the point later on in the song where you would expect it to have been if the track had kept playing, then the audio output connection might be the problem.

If the DVD restarts at the beginning or resumes at exactly the point where it cut off, then the power to the amplifier might be cutting off. In that case it might also be a connection but it might be a fuse that's not secure or needs cleaning.

Cd and dvd resumes exactly at the cut off point

I tried showing my car to few audio specialists. All of them refused to touch it saying it is complicated hybrid system. I guess I have to pay the premium price of the dealership to get it fixed

Unless you have bought the car with full knowledge of the fault, the supplying dealer is legally responsible for fixing any faults which may have been present or developing for six months from the date of sale.

If you haven't done so already, you should go back to the dealer and ask them to fix it.

Hope you get sorted soon

That is utter rubbish. The hybrid system has got nothing to do with the audio system whatsoever but the HV side can be completely isolated from the car anyway by pulling the plug and putting the hybrid system into service mode. They obviously either have too much money and don't need new customers or they haven't got a clue and it's perhaps better that they aren't let loose on the car anyway.

I totally agree. You may not have bought the car from a Lexus dealer, but you are still covered by some level of warranty. Ultimately, the car is not working as it should, so you should expect  the seller to fix it. I would not waste any time though...

Did you try taking out the fuse and cleaning the contacts? It might just be corrosion on the fuse connections. I'm afraid I don't know which fuse it is. Maybe someone else knows.
