New owner of 2006 IS250 SE-L - My project thread

I'm going to carry this on from my post in the 'new members area'.....

Hi and good evening

I wanted to join the forum and introduce myself, my name is Michael, 33 from North Lincolnshire.

I have just become the 3rd owner of this very very tidy IS250 SE-L that I bought from my local Marshall's Honda garage in Hull.

For an old motor, wow has this got some kit! I have recently learned that it is the top spec model or very close to, it has every gadget I could possibly ask for and more.

This car was bought as a 'stop gap' between other cars and I had planned on selling it after approx 4-5 months, but after under a week of ownership I think I'll hang on to this gem 😁

A few details and spec:

42K miles

2 previous owners 

Full and comprehensive Lexus service history

Sat Nav

Reversing camera

ML premium sound system

Electric everything

Xenon's

etc etc

The very first thing I did was give the exhaust trims a sorting out and polish, they clearly hadn't been cleaned since new 😳🙊

I am fitting a new pollen filter tomorrow as I suspect that needs doing, I have also just ordered a set of boot gas struts as mine are clearly worn with the effort it takes to open the boot 🤣 I am also on the lookout for an updated sat nav disc.

The car was faultless on the test drive and I was immediately impressed with it, would silver have been my first choice....no not really, but the car does look well in it and with the car's history, mileage, condition and spec there was no way I was going to let it go.

I am a professional detailer by trade so please forgive how ridiculous I am with the cleanliness of my cars 🙈 but it's my hobby, passion and business and thoroughly enjoy making my cars beyond immaculate.

Ok so the car is home, there are a few surface scratches here and there I need to take care of, paint correction and ceramic coating to be carried out but these will happen once I've moved house and have my own garage in a couple of months. 

First job, sort out the awfully kept exhaust tips 😳

There was some staining around the tips also which I have now removed.

The first thing I actually bought for the car was a new genuine pollen filter, fitted today and took less than 5 minutes

Not too bad but worthwhile replacing it.

I gave the housing a clean up too while it was out

I have been on a buying spree today, my first jobs are to ensure the car has everything it should have from factory, in my case it does apart from its missing the fabric wallet with the tools in which is kept with the spare wheel, I've now got one on order so that's that sorted, it is also missing the polystyrene holder that sits on top of the spare wheel, struggling to locate one of those.

Apart from that the other parts I've ordered are as follows:

• Upgraded Xenon bulbs to 8000k

• Boot liner to protect original boot fabrics

• Complete LED interior light kit

• New number plates

• 2 new batteries for both remote fobs

• Genuine Lexus first aid kit

• x2 new rear boot struts

I will be removing the 'Lexus' and 'IS250' badges from the boot, just personal preference really I prefer the less cluttered look, I'll be updating every bulb on the exterior too to LED.

That's it for now, I'll keep this up to date as things happen 😁

Mike, that was a very neat car you’ve got for yourself am sure it would even be better looking once you finish the project. I will be interested in how you install the interior lights - is it going to be one of those that could change colours according to one’s moods?

Thank you very much, haha no colour changing lights for me, just some white LED's to (in my opinion) bring the car a little more up to date, I much prefer the brighter LED look to the old warm yellow glow.

Let me know if you come across LED bulbs for the indicators as I didn't think they could be done.

You're right in the fact that the SE-L is the most equipped model in the 250 range, only one to have wood ( and it is real wood highly lacquered and made by Yamaha, as in the musical instruments not the motorbikes!) inserts in the cabin and the only model to have the rear electric sun screen.

if you want to upgrade the folding door mirrors to auto fold upon locking the car ( as fitted to later models) then this can easily be achieved with a device called a PO-40 module ( lots of info on this forum if you search). I have done this mod as a visual indicator from afar that the car is indeed locked, keyless entry and all that.

hope you're gonna be as pleased with your 250 as I am.

I'll find them mate, people didn't think they could be done on my previous A5 but I found some, I'll let you know when I do 🙂

Hi Paul, thank you very much for that tip as I would definitely like the mirrors to fold on locking/unlocking, I'll do some research 😊

Silver wasn't my first choice either, but its really grown on me. It looks fantastic at night, or on a bright sunny day.

Regarding LED indicators...Yes its possible as I've done this to my car (plus the reversing lights), but haven't updated my build thread yet since the job isn't 100% done yet.
I still need to find the time/weather/courage to remove the front bumper so I can swap out the front bulbs, but the rears are done and look great.

I used these Osram W16W bulbs, plus I had to swap the flasher relay to prevent the indicators from hyper-flashing due to the LEDs drawing less power. The relay is only a few quid on amazon.

Thank you very much, I love what you have done with your car, thank you for the tips on the LED indicators 👍 they make such a difference when they're fitted.

As for the relay would you be able to point me in the direction of where I fit this please, which location do I need to be in, is it a relay in the engine compartment I need to replace with this new one?

No problem. The flasher relay is up underneath the dashboard, on the driver's side above the pedals. Its not too far from the fusebox.

It can be a bit awkward to get to, but removing the lower dashboard panel where the OBDII port is, makes things much easier.

Amazed that front bumper needs to be removed to get access to front indicator lamps! Slight design fail there I feel, but I guess it's pretty restricted in there and something had to give! I got a feeling Halfrauds ain't fitting these for a tenner then?? Not that you would want them to. So...if access is that awkward then it might make good sense to go in and fit super long lasting LED's ( well that's gonna be my excuse to do this mod anyhow)

I know 😫 I'm going to have every LED bulb ready for fitting when I have the front bumper off, I don't really want to be having to keep taking that off each time I decide to change a bulb.

Are the headlight indicating bulbs just those small 501 wedge type?

It's the only one that would be done like that. I did my fogs and side lights to LED and didn't have to take the bumper off.

No mate Hb4 I believe. Mine are like these with the leds around and at the front. Think mine were the 80w ones so look so much better. 00982b344a64dc9aa58963a1c9e939de.jpg

Does anyone else's needles make this noise on their swept at start up? I noticed it the other day and it drives me nuts whenever I start the car 🙈🤣

Sounds like the gears or motors behind have had it 😳 maybe theres nothing wrong but I've looked at numerous YouTube vids of other IS's and non of them seem to make this noise, does any of yours?
