ISF replacement added to the list...

Recommended Posts

I don’t think I could keep up/put up with the ferocious maintenance on a M3/M4. A mate at work had an M4 for just over a year and it was CONSTANTLY in the dealers to fix some rattle/leak/warning light or other. Then it got nicked.

Even the M5 on long term review in last month’s Top Gear mag couldn’t be.. err.. reviewed as it keeps conking out and the dealer doesn’t appear to have a clue! Then the noise - the sports exhaust made a horrible, raspy farting noise! It actually made me laugh the first time I heard it. I hope it’s better from inside.

I have no doubt an M car is probably a little more lithe around a racetrack than the comparible ISF/RCF/GSF, but I can’t look past all the positives from the posh Toyota unfortunately. It’s a ‘meh’ from me.

Indeed and reviews are based on 3 laps of a circuit and a few hours on a road. Long term is where it’s at. Lexus really do have it nailed.

@Warrington guy‘s M4 hasn’t as much as coughed.

My ISF was in and out of Lexus dealers all the time. So, Lexus are not immune to issues!

Sometimes you’re lucky - sometimes not.

Went to Goodwood in a friends 2017 M3 with the comp pack & one of the things that impressed me most was the ride quality and comfort - very refined.
I don't want to drive one. I might like it and it would ruin my irrational prejudice.

The issue with the m cars for me is the wow factor. When I say this I mean would I look back at it walking away. If it’s a toy car it need to evoke that emotion and for me they don’t. Clearly personal but it’s key for me when buying a toy.

Don't get me wrong....  My BMW ownership of a 335i was nothing less than horrific.  Just really enjoyed driving this today.  Was something "different"

I got back in my ISF and took the long way home and suffice to say I still adore her.

I am interested to see what my friend has to say when he hands the keys back to the M4 next week and gets back in his ISF.  It's kind of like wife swap I suppose.  Spend a week with a crazy pornstar who you know will ruin you in the end but fun in small doses before returning to Nigella Lawson for a softer yet still fun experience 😉

See this picture sums it up for me.............

Just looks the same as every other BMW on the road.:whistling:

Yes, I know that is a bit of a sweeping statement and obviously there are subtle differences, but if Joe Bloe drives past at 40mph they would just ignore it and pass it off as a BMW. Would they think the same if they drove past an RCF or LC ?

I don't want a car that shouts from the rooftops but I do want something that looks a little different and has the styling cue's to indicate it's performance.

Obviously the M performance is impressive, but it's like a lot of German car designs at the moment..............they are too scared to try something different. (i8 excepted).

I agree.

Just moved mine round the garage and then looked back 😄

I guess so. But only as much as a Hublot is a Louis Vuitton watch. A Porsche is a VW. A Rolls Royce is a Beemer. Costa Coffee is a Coca-Cola. etc etc.

I think in this context a Hublot is LVMH...…...

Yes, that’s right: LVMH = Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey, and yes Louis Vuitton is a brand of LVMH, but then so is VW of Volkswagen Group, etc. The point is the same that brands are often owned by larger holding groups but can still operate as independent, self determining organisations...albeit with vastly larger R&D / marketing / operational budgets and also access larger economies of scale and distribution networks.

s*x weeeeeeee!

Serioualy though the m4 does nothing for me.

My car was parked next to @Warrington guy‘s M4 the other day.

As we walked away from the cars, I said to Dave, “Whicb car is going to get the more attention?” We both agreed it was the F car (despite the M4 leaking oil and smoking)

The M4 is a very handsome car in the flesh and looks way different to a stock BMW stood still. I must admit to only noticing them in high street, hard to spot on the move. Might be a good thing eh?

RCF is more stand out ish...... but although it stands out people don't say - ooh look at that, a cool Lexus. They say WTF is that? A new Jaguar? ( I have actually had someone ask if it's a jag)

Or what size engine is it? A 2 ltr?

That's the result from years of efforts of the BMW marketing machine. Everyone knows what the M3/M4 is/are.

Lexus are not in that league, not in the UK anyway. In the US the car buying public are much more aufait with Lexus products, they see them as high-end luxury cars.

I don't mind, I like some anonymity. I had an Alpina 3 series a couple of years ago, no-one new what that was. Most thought it just another BMW. I quite like that too.

When I feel the need to shout my success from the rooftops, I'll get another M3/M4 😉

I don’t know if it’s the car or the photographer or both, but that looks blinking magnificent.

Actually I do, great car and a great eye. Distinct jealousy.

@JonP that is very kind of you 👍 Thank you.

When I get some time, I'll try and take some proper shots of the F whilst out and about. I'm still trying to re-kindle my love for photography at the moment.

I'd like to shoot @Mark G's Blue GS-F, but he seems reluctant to give me the keys!

Very pretty car Lee.

Love that colour. Also like white and YMB!

BMW's taste of colours seems vastly better than Lexus.

Comparing the M4 to the RC-F, I can see that the RC-F is definitely stirs more emotions - good and bad. The M4 is pretty from all angles, but the RC-F out does it from some.

I took it out again yesterday.  Had me and my mate giggling like school kids at the bangs and pops it was making around town.  Don't think I would ever get bored of that.

Parked it back at work, locked it and I looked back at it no less than 4 times and thought.  Yeah, I would 🙂

But again, got back in my ISF and didn't feel need to change to the BMW just yet.  Maybe one more drive in the M4 next week...  Just to make sure 😉

Probably a great car to drive but just looks like a regular 4 series to the untrained eye on the last 2 photos!

As opposed to my ISF which looks like...  An IS250 to the untrained eye or someone who is deaf if I am driving past them  😉
