Considering RX450h

Recommended Posts

Eamonn, has you Advance got the Pan or the Sun roof? Does this affect the amount of headroom compared to the Luxury? What did you drive before? I'm just wondering how easy it will be for me to adjust to the higher position of the 3RX compared to my GS300. I did have a test drive a few months ago and the 3RX did feel very wide and general big, but of course it was only a 30 minute test drive, hardly enough time to feel confident driving such a different style of car.

I had a 2015 GS 300h luxury before my RX450h. The RX is extremely manoeuvrable apart from the lock being poor compared to rwd. There is plenty of headroom with the blind in place on the pan roof. I am 6feet tall and even with seat set on high it is fine.

Mine has the sunroof and there is no problem whatsoever with height. We have had ours just over three years now and it is a joy to own and drive plus they are also very practical cars.

With keyless entry I'd say one of the daftest things to be fitted on models from any manufacturer.

And it doesn't seem to matter whether they're wheels on a Lexus or wheels on a Citroen. They all do it.

Well keyless entry is arguably quite useful.

Diamond cut wheels are neither useful or that good to look at. They seem to corrode even if coated with ceramic sealants

Nice looking car and I went for ivory interior which looks great. I put a set of genuine Lexus ivory rubber floor mats in mine which makes it sooh east to clean. The only issue is keeping the black looking smart. My IS300h f sport in celestial black was a labour of love...

Thanks Les.

I too have been trying to avoid any black colour, but the choice seems limited. The other thing that worries me is the size of the wheels. Honest John , of the Telegraph, says to avoid 19 inch and go for 18 inch ones for better ride. Thanks for the tip re ivory rubber mats, didn’t know they even existed.

They won't be diamond cut as it is a Luxury model. Don't think any of the 3RX came standard with 18 inch, hence would be difficult to 'avoid' when buying. Maybe s'thing to consider when opting for a separate set of summers and winters. Looks like a nice example indeed (if you like black..). Michelin tyres on them, which is a good sign and you may be able to get s'thing off the price considering the cars mileage. Good luck!

Our RX450h Advance (in Celestial Black with Ivory interior) has 19" wheels and I can tell you that it's the best and most comfortable ride of any car I've ever had - and that's coming from someone who suffered a back injury so severe that I was medically retired from work.

Must admit that I didn't know that ivory rubber mats were available either. When we bought our car it came with ivory carpet mats and black rubber mats so I'm not going to spend extra just to get ivory ones but it's good to know, maybe for future use.

Thanks

Herbs,  you are a star for allaying my concern re ride comfort.... I believe the ride on Luxury and Advance is identical. The only difference being in adaptive lights and the fromt grill on the Advance. The grill is not of any importance to me and I rarely drive in the dark these days....Black is not to my liking but it certainly looks to be in good condition. I’ll have the dealer send me a video...and then decide.

The ride is exactly the same on all models apart from the SE which I believe had the 18", the f sport with its firmer suspension and the premier with air suspension.

Looks in good nick overall just needs a machine polish by the looks of it

Decent tyres on there too. Michelin latitude sport

Regarding the Diamond Cut wheels on the 2014 and 2015 Advance 3RX. If they were to become corroded, could they be refurbished and painted as you would do with a Non Diamond Cut wheel? I'm talking professionally done, i.e. sand blasting, dipping etc.

Yes, we bought a small Nissan earlier this year for Mrs ledzep.  It had badly corroded diamond cuts, gone all milky behind the lacquer.  They hadn't been kerbed, just chips in the lacquer allowing water ingress.

We had a full refurbishment done (the whole wheel) and painted in gunmetal at The Wheel Specialist in Swansea, fantastic job like new wheels !  I believe they are a franchise operation with centres around the country.

Thanks Steve for the above info.

I have been looking at 3RX for sale on the Lexus website and it's obvious I can't rely on the descriptions that some Lexus dealers put on there. There's a March 2014 Advance in Mercury Grey listed by Tunbridge Wells and the photo quite correctly shows the car with the 7 spoke wheels (as it should be) but the blurb reads 18" alloy wheels, 5 spoke design, 235/60 R18. I've not checked to see what else is wrong. The Leeds dealer has a November 2014 Advance listed (No photo yet) and the blurb again says the wheels are 18" alloy wheels, 5 spoke design, 235/60 R18. This car should have (and probably does have) 19" 15 spoke two tone machine faced alloy wheels. This is very sloppy business practice with no 'attention to detail' and I'm really surprised that it happens with official Lexus dealers. Definitely have to go with the official specification sheets which have been kindly put up on this forum previously of which I have kept copies. Rant over!!

That's just the basic SE spec. Seems to be across all of them on the Lexus Website. Autotrader descriptions seem more accurate

Excellent!

Same colour combo as ours. I was told by a few people that it would be an absolute nightmare to keep clean but I don't care, I think this colour combo just looks so classy.

Enjoy!

Yep quite a common thing on the diamond cut wheels from any manufacturer.

its due to the water sitting there and not being able to get out.

No machined rims!

Very very nice looking car that one. Seems to have the optional front and rear "guards" too

I am still amazed that I bought a celestial Black car. But the combination of black and cream/ivory inside is just stunning.. Also the car was almost showroom standard. Very pleased.

Thanks everyone for helping out. I collect it on Tuesday after transferring the money tomorrow.

Ls430 gone....😕

Les, thanks for posting those photos. I can now see what is meant by machined and not painted. Please let us all know what happens. It'll be interesting to hear if you are offered/you accept refurbed wheels and if you have them painted to avoid the same problem recurring or if new replacement wheels are supplied but without the machined parts.
