Time to say goodbye.....

Recommended Posts

It has been a great run but its time to let go of my LS430 the car betrayed me for the last time so I am sending it to the scrap yard in the sky where I will feel some sense of revenge for the time she let me down in Sainsburys car park.

I have a gs300 for an emergency car I thought it might be long term... but It is just not the same, like going from an epic girlfriend to well..... a drunken rebound  one night stand down a dark alley in the rain.

The GS is a great car but I have been forever changed into a soft luxury needing ******... to think I used to drive around in a mark 3 escort and think it was the bees knees.

My light at the end of this tunnel has to be a Toyota celsior a clean Ls really following many of you here.

Well as you know I have a Celsior and I'm chuffed to bits with it.  If you can find yourself a fresh import you'll get low mileage and a shiny underbelly!  There is of course still the potential for problems but some can be prevented, others can be repaired by a good indie.  What happened in Sainsbury's car park?

I do buddy and you have inspired me to get one although I can feel a Toyota century calling me but I'm worried about getting spares for it.

I have been looking in the Japanese auctions for one.

A celsior it is then I would love one in white with a wool interior although I would have have to buy my daughter a car as her dog would be as welcome as a fart in a space suit if I may quote the great Billy.

Then Slam on a set of coilovers as soon as I can as that's what's happened to mine in Sainsbury's.

As I say it's a shame to crush the car but I don't have the space to break it and I would not want to heap it upon anyone else even with the Lpg kit on it and all the work I and my brother-in-law have done on it.

Never one to miss an opportunity but you see before it heads off to the sky you wouldn't have an drivers side inner wing splash guard available perchance? (well if you don't ask...) 🙂

I ran my 430 for 15 years and 265K miles - best car I ever had (and I had 4 LS400s) - I had to scrap it last year :(.  I moved to a RX450h - the h is for hateful object.  I became  used to the luxury of the LS - the hateful object is technically brilliant (except for the 7 mouse clicks to find home on the sat nav) but is not as good as the LS to ride in.  You sit in the RX450h press the break pedal and the go button..........no more buying spares from Rock Auto and getting the local garage to fit them - no more LPG

I looked at the 460 but it is not viable to run an old car that is so complex - also an LPG conversion is not possible.

Well if that isn't a big thumbs up for the LS430 I don't know what is!  I know you converted yours (LS) to coil struts, would you recommend it for those who have suspension problems?

Hi Phil

The coil over replacements worked very well so I recommend them.  Afew point to consider: I had leaking rear stuts, the compressor was noisy and the rear left ride height sensor and link was broken.  I think the sensor was the biggest problem to repair.  There are a lot of cheap parts available in the US (including delivery) so new parts may be cheaper than you think.  A lot of 430s were sold in NA so there are warehouse firesales of new spare parts.

Rock Auto was my favourite place to shop.

Glad to see you are keeping your beast running.

I had coilovers on my last ls430 which I gave away however i think I traded coils for LPG ...which was good and very bad.

Although I have to admit that the combination of LPG tank in the spare wheel well and twisty country roads with all the heat we had in the summer meant that 3 of my tyres split on the edge and had to be replaced due to the weight being far back from the wheel causing the damage.

Brian... sorry buddy I did try to get it off however my jack would not fit under the car with the shocks blown.
