Well, you appear to be correct since I have just done another quote, this time parking on the street, and it came out roughly £50 cheaper than on the driveway.

This is frustrating and irrelevant though since I refuse to park my car on the street when I have a perfectly good drive in front of my house!

I have a neighbour, who although he has loads of parking space at the front of his house, always parks his car in the road.....very strange.

There's a guy across the road from my parents who does this. Very annoying when you're reversing out of their drive. His is empty and has room for probably 3 cars.

Anyhoo, insurance. Just to annoy everyone, I've now reached the magic 50 and the insurance for my 9-3 is £170. I recently picked up a '96 9000 too and on the same policy it was an extra £30  Old age does have its advantages.

hahahahaha ............. and at age 50 we all know we really can drive two cars at the same time

one insurer even told me the magic age for lowest car insurance is mine   65 - 69        but I guess next year when I'm 70 they'll cane me for being too old  :Jumpy:

we KNOW we just can't ever win this ridiculous battle on premiums

Missed this topic and only caught up after I had reinsured my RX450h. My current insurers quoted a price of £519 ( increase of £200) Cheapest online price was £367 which was still a big increase in my mind. I then rang Adrian Flux who had always been nearly the most competitive previously but not quite there. After a lot of negotiating I managed to get a price of £275. Now I didn't expect that. To not only renew it but at a cheaper price than last years premium. Full marks to Adrian Flux. Now we will see if they can match it next year or I have to look around yet again ( although I always check a number of quotes anyway)

Hi,

Glad we were able to retain your business this year.

I was with admiral under a multicar policy for a good 3-4 years until this year.

They increased the premium by £600 altogether. Went online, got quotes separately and then phoned Chris Knott brokers who beat both quotes with bespoke cover

Also tried Chris Knott but was told they require at least 2 years NCD...

Surely you have more than 2 years NCD? Ive always kept mine protected.

Bought the car in 2017; less than 2 years ago. Never owned a car before although driven plenty (but not as a named driver). Also 10+ years no claims bonus on a motorbike, which doesn't count.

I can't figure out how they determine car insurance. In the past I've had a Celica GT4, Mini Cooper 'S' and 3 years ago a BMW Z3. The Z3 cost me £240 fully comp, traded it in for a Transit Connect van which was £280 fully comp! Couldn't believe the jump in insurance from a 140mph sportscar to a crappy van that couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding lol. These were all under £300 to insure.

Traded the Connect for a Renault Trafic that cost £380 fully comp, it was private transport (stealth camper as was the Connect). Two weeks ago I traded the Trafic for my Lexus 2007 rx400h........... £585 fully comp!!! WTF! This from the Meerkat search engine, I ended up with Swift Insurance who I was with for the Mini Cooper 'S'.

All the above fully comp with 90 million years no claims. Pah, where do they get these figures from. I'm also 67 although still working.

Going to add my experience.  When I swapped from a Citroen C6 to my Lexus I was surprised at the jump (or rather large additional payment) - this was due to the fact the car was worth considerably more and so full replacement value was considerably more.  Now the policy has come to an end and it was renewal time.  I got a quote from the incumbent, Chris Knott, tried Direct Line and Compare the Market, then rang Adrian Flux on the OS scheme, who were helpful and admitted they could not get close to the Chris Knott renewal.  Only online quote even close (was still more) required a black box adding, so Chris Knott has got the renewal  (not sure if there were a renewal on the C6 last year or a new bit of business as I always hunt round).

Interesting side note, as some one who used to own and drive (and track day) highly modified cars, I actually found the insurance cheaper on those (supercharged MK1 MX-5 and a performance modified FX7 FD3) - possibly as the specialist insurers may consider you're going take more care of a car you've spent additional thousands with a daily drive.

doesn't make sense! Insurances are rip off. It's like paying more if you keep your car on drive way or a garage and you have to pay more, idiotic!

Your insurance must be through the roof!

I have like 10-12 YNCB and paid this year almost £600!

One thing to bare in mind, which was in the enws a  number of months back.  After years of insurance costs gradually going down, this year they've been rising back up again.

That is rubbish, when I heard that news I was shocked as my premium every year goes up as my NCB!

is this the Trump syndrome of  "  Fake News  "  put about by the insurance company thieves and scoundrels

or maybe it meant that the insurance company costs went down   NOT their clients insurance premium costs at all :zorro:

Thieves and robbers all

Sorry guys but there are plenty of articles out there  including on independent sites - here's one for you from the RAC - and I know there was another rise in October.  Prices prior to 2018 had been going down slowly over around a 3-4 year period.  I certainly saw it in my old Citroen C6, which is a similarly high group to my Lexus, but with a worst reputation for build quality (which does affect insurance) and also high replacement costs (body parts and some of the mechanical components are made to order only) countering the lowering value of my car.

Edit - here's another from a suitable group.

It's way too high for my liking, but not as bad as you might think - just over £700/year with Admiral. Last year when I was obtaining quotes it was a few hundred more, hence in fact pleasantly surprised that a fault accident during the year and no NCB ended up me paying less. Goes to show what everyone on here already knows or has experience with: we're trying to apply common sense on an industry, which is guided by all kinds of metrics and common sense doesn't feature.

My motorbike insurance goes up every year even though 14+ years NCB, sometimes by as much as 100%. You then end up calling and a surreal conversation begins, s'thing along the following lines: Me: Can you explain the reason for the increase in premium this year? Insurance: You live in London and motorbike thefts are rife. Me: But I've got 3rd party only. Insurance: Doesn't matter...  You get the gist.

When I had my Toyota Celica GT4 a few years ago the guys in the owners club found that putting their mothers as a named driver on their insurance brought the premiums down dramatically. A few of the guys didn't even tell their mothers lol. I wonder if that trick still works?

Hi all,

How much do you pay for your insurance? I knew Lexus is in high insurance group but renewal is £875!

This is me with 12years NCB and my wife with 8years NCB! Every year the price goes up, as last year (I changed cars half way through) it was £859!

That is just a rip off that is made legal!!!

To get my insurance down i added Female Family members (Even if they will never drive the car) this brought the price down a lot, I have relatives over 100 miles away on my insurance policy as named drivers. They will never drive the car but helps me with the cost.

Give it a try 🙂
