lexus gs/ls 430/400 speed limit removal

Hello everyone,

I have done some searches but can't find an exact answer. We are going to germany at some point and we have a an X-reg, S-reg and 2002 Lexus gs430, ls400 and ls430. We would like to see if we can reach the top end speed, can anyone recommend a way of removing the 155 mph speed limiter on the UK models? I am assuming the 430s will have a similar way of removing the limiter but what about the 400? Thank you.

Note: Forum admins, I have placed this thread in the general section as it relates to three different cars. Please move if appropriate. Thank you.

I can't answer your question but I'm interested in what you're asking as mine is apparently limited to 113mph (or there about) due to it being an import.  I'm also thinking about Germany (on the way to Austria) next year.  I'm guessing it'll be a difficult process removing it.

I have read about this before. Is your speedometer still in kmph? It has something to do with the way you convert the speed so that the speed ECU sees is a max of 180. It does not know that the number 180 is now in mph rather than kmph.

Japan limits its cars to 180 kmph (~113mph). I might be wrong but this is what I read on these forums.

That's very interesting. Mine has been converted to miles so maybe it's not limited now.  Not sure how I'd test it though as it'll be an instant ban speed!

This does look interesting. Have you or anyone you know used it?

The 180kpmh limit on Japanese models is there. I had a Japanese import Corolla Altis which kicked and shuddered after 180kmph. Gave me quite a fright as I had recently bought it new (back in 2008 in Asia). The dealership confirmed the limiter (and I got a stare too as they had to confirm it from Toyota in Japan). I have an Accord but that's the one made for the US market. That'll happily hit 200kmph and no shudders. I'd hate to have a v6 or v8 that limited to 180kmph.

I wonder what prices these things are and whether we can import them to UK. But great to know it's this easy to do.

Cheers.

Once you find the type you need just search the Jap car clubs for new or used along with the bay of e,
Driftworks, #,mkiv supra for example.

I've had a gts-t skyline that I left limited,

it's very scary driving at over 120mph  ........  my old'un ( Ls400 before this car ) did that in Germany without any modification ...  not sure i would ever feel comfortable doing that again tbh

I once took my Mk3 GS300 to about 135mph and it was very stable at that.  It would do alledgedly 148mph  (not limited) so the 270-ish BHP 430 wouldn't I'd have thought exceeded the limiter speed by much.  More powerful versions, perhaps by a little more?  Not had the RX abroad yet but know that's limited to 124mph and wouldn't want to take it past that anyway!
