Clutch/gearbox Again ?

Hi all,

I've got an IS200 sport, on a 2001 Y plate. It's done 38500 miles.

Now when I let the clutch out I get a distinctive whirring sound. When I press it down it disappears. The car had that annoying judder when you first pull away, but late last year my local dealer replaced the clutch/flywheel/ and bearing under warrenty. The judder has gone, but the sound has slowly appeared over the last few months. It's getting on my nerves.

Anybody had this before ? Can anyone shed some light on it for me ?

clutch release bearing.......is on its way out....

Or gearbox input shaft bearing ??

If the noise goes away when you press the clutch, its the input shaft bearing and not the release bearing.

had the same noise on the race car, changed the release bearing, and the noise has gone.

As far as i remember from my colledge mechanic days lol the clutch release bearing is only spun when the clutch pedel is pressed.And the gearbox input shaft is spun when the pedel is let out.

Therefore it's the input shaft bearing making the noise.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to get both bearings change and get a light weight flywheel put on? (Hampshire - South London area)

Thanks guys. I'll ask my local dealer to look at it again. The release bearing has been changed, I'll ask for the input shaft to be looked at.
