Help. I just got myself an RX300 2004 for my other half, which because of its year doesn’t have hands free. (The car not the wife)

I have a Parrot system I’m looking to fit. The problem is I can’t find an ISO cable to fit it.

Ive done all the usual google and eBay but I still can’t find one.

Does anyone know where I can source such a thing?

Hi,

Doing a Google search of "lexus rx300 2004 parrot" threw up a number of options. It looks like the cable is available on eBay and amazon.

For instance this link on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/PaRROT-Adapter-TOYOTA-LEXUS-BLUETOOTH/dp/B009EO6JQM

The compatibility list states RX300/330/430 (2004 onwards)

Is this any good for you?

In that case you may have to have a word with a car audio specialist to see if they can source the correct lead for you.

What lead is it you need? That one on amazon seemed to have the correct connections to connect the Lexus loom and break out the connections to the Parrot unit.

Delph I removed a good Parrot system from a car I was getting rid of, so I could fit it to the replacement one. So all I need is the cable between my car and the parrot.

I think it's called an ISO

My connectors see attached

I think only two of those connectors are used on the Parrot system. Looking at all the pinouts for the RX radio, the signals to the amp and the power are contained in just two connectors. I assume  the third connector is for other stuff like the steering wheel controls.

Basically all the leads have to do is pass through the signals between the radio and the amp, and break out power to the Parrot system and any signal wires the Parrot system needs access to so it can work. So you have connectors that your original wires connect into, then they plug into the back of the radio. Any signals that need to break out from the wiring go to the ISO connectors which the parrot plugs into. Not having fitted a Parrot system before I'm guessing, but that's how I'd assume it works.

The Parrot may tap into the lines to the amp in order to provide audio from the phone through the car speakers instead of using the mute line. But that should be taken care of with the ISO connections.

I have a Nokia install on my RX and it has a separate speaker for the phone audio, so it just mutes the audio using the mute line.

I've found this video showing install on a Honda. The install on the RX should be similar on the wiring, except you plug the adaptor lead into two connectors on the RX because the front left, front right, rear left and rear right channels are split across the two connectors. So you fit the pass through lead you need to buy for the RX and then plug the Parrot loom into the ISO connections.

Looking at all the leads available, I can't see any leads on amazon or eBay that match the picture of the leads on your car. I just wonder if the available leads are designed to plug in somewhere else?

Are those the connections into the back of your Radio?

You might have to go to a car audio specialist and they may be able to look up your car's details and get the correct lead. They would have a better idea of which lead you need.

The part you're looking for.is known as a SOT lead. This converts the ISO plugs on the Parrot kit ti the car specific plugs and allows the Parrot kit to mute the stereo and then route phone audio through the speakers.

We sell these where I work but I don't know what we have in stock so I would have to ask. If this is of interest, send me a message with the spec and year of your stereo and I'll do my best for you.

BTW, I opted for a Pure Highway 600 DAB, Bluetooth music and hands free unit in mine instead of the Parrot as it gives the added DAB radio function. Worth considering..

Jam thanks for your input.

I was in contact with parrot support. Each request I made to them asking to verify the correct part, was met with a message offering a link.

When I followed the link it was dreadful. Couldn't make out if it had the correct plugs. When I pointed this out to them, guess what......... They sent me the same link.

After 4 attempts at this I contacted their Facebook support. Yes, they sent me the same link.

I gave up on Parrot support and now looking for what you suggested.

I will probably never touch Parrot stuff again.

Cheers

I had this exact dilemma myself. I have been trying to do an identical thing to you for two months now! I know what part it is called and I have had the same experience with Parrot customer service. The part that you want is called ' Lexus (and Toyota JBL) Harness Adapter QCJBL-2'.

However, the part seems not to be available in the UK at all. The only place I found it was in the USA and it was over $100 just for the lead! I therefore have hard wired mine in which theoretically is a really easy job.... Apart from mine does not work yet! I have another forum post asking for help.

I think there is an issue with the signal coming out of the stereo myself but when it eventually gets solved I'll post here too.

For anybody else puzzled of why the stock Lexus Rx400H / 300 lead isn't the same from what I understand it has at least three if not four different stereos. They all look very similair from the frint but have different plugs.

Stereo 1 - Cassette / CD player

Stereo 2 - Front Loading Multi CD only

Stereo 3 - Mark Levsion

Stereo 4 - Navigational unit ???

So it transpires that there are 11 different versions of the stereo all made by Pioneer and there are 4 main differences. None of this helps us fit the Parrot unless of course someone has a lead specifically for it. My own gut feeling and I'm 99.9% certain that I have the hard wiring correct on it is that the left and right channels contain some kind of amplified or power coming from the head unit and that is why there is no sound. I read somewhere that the unit is tri-amped whatever that means... This is clutching at straws and might be completely wrong but it shouldn't be difficult to tap in to just 4 cables!?

I finally solved my Install of the Parrot. It took two months to solve and it was the mute wire! I cut it and it worked perfectly! BUT from what I can see you'll need an extra speaker for the handsfree when the stereo is off. If anybody needs a wiring diagram of how to manually wire it in then just ask and I'll figure one out... It isn't a difficult job but no idea why the mute cable was the culprit!

Matt you've managed to accumulate a massive amount of info here, but I think your efforts may be in vane.

I visit a local stereo company for advice. They told me this problem has raised it's head many times over the years.

Apparently a Parrot system can't be fitted to the RX as there is not an ISO made for it. Also the amplifier is under one of the seats which causes a fitting issue.

He warned me not to listen to Parrot or Halford support who will say it's possible.

The only way is your way. DIY
