Insurance for LS430 at 18yrs old?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Despite being a member on here the car actually belongs to my mom. Joined the LOC to be a part of a community of enthusiasts for such a beautiful car. I love the LS430 and am a bit of a car enthusiast in general but not being able to drive the Lexus is torture for me! I passed my test in May and have my own car on own policy, have full automatic license (will do manual test in coming months when have time). Whenever I look online or contact any insurers including my mom's, they all tell me that I can't be added on the LS until 25 yrs old because the car is too awesome 😎. I have even looked at temporary insurance by hours or days however same restriction applies. Waiting 7 years is an eternity!

Does anyone have any ideas or knows a company who can insure me temporarily on the Lexus- a day or something only? I once saw a guy who looked in his teens driving a ls400, very well I should add, so surely there are some insurers or arrangement possible? Am I not searching hard enough?

Thanks very much in advance

Doesn't your own policy cover you to drive a car that doesn't belong to you, albeit third party only?

Hi Phil, unfortunately my policy doesn't allow for that and then there is of course the annoying age restriction anyway.

Thanks

No, driving other cars is usually not included on fully comp policies until the policy holder is over 25.

Perhaps a temporary insurance for a day or something? Or is that also unavailable until 25 with every company? Perhaps there is a company who does very short term insurance without such a harsh age restriction?

Thanks

So with being added ruled out am still holding out hope on some kind of temporary insurance so that I could enjoy the car for a day or something. Perhaps a treat for my birthday ha ha! Or maybe chatting with Adrian Flux and explaining my conundrum.

I think you will struggle to get insurance unless you have extremely deep pockets. I seem to recollect when I was young 30 was the sort of age needed to insure any sort of performance car.

With the reputation my age group gets on the road it's not a surprise really. Still, perhaps there's something short term or maybe in a few years but before 25 the insurers might be lenient if I keep a clean record. I can only hope.

It has even afflicted the rich and famous - Michael Owen got a sponsorship deal with Jaguar when he was a teenager, but was unable to actually drive the car because of insurance. Jensen Button could only get insurance on a 320d when his day job was with Williams BMW (didn't stop button from getting nicked for speeding in said 320d).

Alex - I understand where you're coming from. When I was 17 and learning to drive was when my father was shopping for a new car. I went out with him on test drives in LS400s, S500, A8 4.2 Quattro, 735i, 740iL. Eventually he bought a 740iL and I didn't get to drive it until I was around 30. I had grand plans that I'd not have an FWD car or anything less than 6 cylinders but reality put paid to that pretty quickly. In the end, my first car (at 21 years old) was a 2 litre which was pretty good going at the time.

go and work for a car sales company and get them to have a Ls430 in stock ( even if you buy it for them ) and then you should be able to drive their stock cars on their company insurances

Maybe !

I found this web that’s Pay as you drive http://www.bymiles.co.uk  cover with AXA Insurance UK plc a crazy price for my car and 2,000 miles it’s Annual estimate £175.43a annual cost, then 38p/mile monthly total p/a £251.43

Just don't wish your life away. You might find it easier and cheaper to insurance if you get an advanced driving qualification say IAM.

I know when my daughter passed her test she did something called 'pass' plus and that reduced her insurance costs (albeit on a 1990 1.3 Ford escort).. That was 19 years ago so things have probably changed.

In that case I stand no chance lol. The s500 is a lovely car, I don't really know much about BMW cars but the one you inherited sounds nice, bet the wait was a pain but at least you had something nice in the meantime. Looks like i'll just have to be patient.

That's an idea and sounds like an enjoyable career for a car person!

Yeah, I will definitely be doing the manual test soon and will also do pass plus as even if it doesn't help for this it will at least reduce my insurance a bit anyway.

I also just saw that too, guess it's a possibility. Thanks for your suggestions Malc I will look into that and flux as well.

Malc, The insurance companies  equate youth with inexperience and as you sound a bright guy you cannot argue with that. Somethings are worth waiting for and driving one of these cars is. Chill focus on some other goal and you never know with some more water under the bridge the desire may or may  not still be there.

Hi.

Whilst I'm more than happy to look into insurance for you I think we would struggle to offer anything competitive for you. Normally our short terms schemes wouldn't cover your age or group of vehicle I'm afraid.

Regards,

Dan.

Hi Dan thank you for reaching out to me. All I want is just even a day to enjoy the car, I understand the limitations on age group and insurance category, but perhaps this small time period could be possible.

Thanks,

Alex

Shame.  To be fair, and its not a word I would usually use when referring to insurance companies, 18 years old+4.3 litres  does sound unlikely. Maybe you could get it on a private track or even a private estate somewhere. I'm sure Prince Charles would accommodate you!👂👂

Ha ha, i'll just drop him a message on Facebook then 😂😂

Yes, I can certainly understand where the insurers are coming from, it's a shame that lots of young drivers abuse the roads and spoil it for people who just want to experience such a beautiful car. I would just love to get in it, plug in my favourite tracks, hit the motorway, set cruise control and just relax. Unfortunately I don't know any race tracks or anything that I could go to.

Anyone know any abandoned airfields in/around Oxfordshire area? Or on the other hand does anyone on here have a really big garden?

Tricky...inSpain where accident rate is horrific both my sons 18 and 22 get cheap insurance on an Alfa 155 Sport in red with spoilers and it’s a great car.

In the UK my 22 year old gets quite cheap insurance on our Jag S 4ltr. Which was a complete surprise to me although it is on our policy...

Don’t get hung up on no claims...get driving. You can get your own policy when economically viable.

Hi, interesting that your son is on your policy for your Jag at 22, in that case perhaps if I wait just a few years they would put me on a bit early if I have a clean record and haggle? At least it would knock a couple of years off the waiting time lol. Luckily I am already driving in my own car and have my own policy, I like my car  a lot don't get me wrong but its just not quite a massive great LS.

Thanks for reply.
