Wheel refurb. Is a non stock colour a crime?

Recommended Posts

The first job I intended doing after I bought my ISF (4 month in now) was to get the wheels refurbished but I'm still having trouble deciding which colour to go with. I'm not so much into modifying but would going with a non stock colour be a crime I wonder?

I think I currently have light silver although they have been done before so could be any non stock colour.

Apologies in advance for the crap photography, shadows, dirty car etc.

Well I have since got hold of a set of dark silver wheels and they look great (thanks Dan) And quite a contrast next to each other. So I could go with those.

Although you don't get the difference so much on the car.

Although I do like the look of matte bronze (without the blue bit) that BCS had lying around.

Ummmmmm Matt Bronze I think, but then again. Ahhhh.

Lexus did mine as well. £85 each. They use a mobile guy. But he took mine away to do them properly. He said he couldn't match the colour exactly, but they'd be close. He also did the barrels in black which was a nice touch.

I was going to use Pristine alloys, but they were more expensive.

I think the darker colour is a better contrast with the white paint personally - nice colour 👍🏻

That is not nice touch... he was just lazy to do whole wheels and skimped on paint... It is like painting car and leaving door jams and engine bay not painted.

Didn't bother me. I actually preferred it. Was more interested in getting the rims sorted. Tbf his actual job was supposed to be a repair in a day.

But he took them away and acid dipped them to remove the caked on brake dust. I'm happy with the result.

Thanks for all the comments, Its interesting Lexus offer a service with local specialists @olliesgrandad @d3ron and at a competitive price. I previously ruled out going to my local dealer expecting the price to be eye watering if they were even were interested. (Although having had a number or IS 200's back in the day we all know what wheel corrosion is about so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.

I do like the dark silver with the white car  @DAW and that's the colour I was going with but until I bought the new set so the old ones need something else which in the end I think will be a winter set.

Fair point @NemesisUK about matt wheels looking dirty but I use the car regularly so regrettably so does the car. Although I have been surprised however how quick I'm picking up little tar spots on the paint but that's another matter.

As for brake dust and wheel cleaning! I bought some Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner and its simply brilliant. Spray on, leave for a few mins, and you can see and smell it working. Just takes a thorough rinse off and its done.

If I was paying I might well now go direct to the refurbishers although my dealer really looked after me. My wheels were totally stripped to bare metal and then powder coated. Sadly my pictures don't do justice to the super shiny finish when the light hits them.

Thanks for all the comments...

I see you're in Derbyshire Glynn. If you need wheels shot blasting and powder coating I can really recommend CBF Powder Coating in Sheffield. Simon did my IS300 and Saab 9-5 wheels. If it hangs about much longer they'll do the ones on the RX too. 200 quid for all four.
