Wheel bearing, pads and discs

Recommended Posts

2005 RX400H - how difficult is it to replace a bearing, new disc and pads on this car? I have a good mechanic but he’s probably not worked on a car like this. Is it more complicated due to regenerative breaking than a non regenerative?

Thanks in advance,

Ez

Disks and pads are a piece of cake, just remember to slacken off the parking brake to get the rear disk off. Not done wheel bearing but it looks like they are a complete unit bolted on so not too much trouble. The regen braking is not an issue.

Member "Herbie" is correct in that to bleed the brake system fully Techstream is required.

The brake system is more complex because of the requirement for a transition from regen braking to combined regen and mechanical brakes, and finally to mechanical only "normally below 7 mph", and the operation of ABS, and VSC systems.

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn’t think it would straight forward...

when you say ‘slacken the parking brake’, I presume it means at the disc and not just release the parking brake?

I think that's exactly what he means, slacken the brake at the disc to enable the disc to come away without catching.
