Master Key Transponder Lost - Engine Imobilised

Recommended Posts

Hi Gents,

RE Lexus RX400h 2005

I've been doing a bit of reading here over the past few days namely these two threads;

I have two sets of black keys, one with the transponder inside and the other hollow with the transponder missing. Thinking I had a spare set I never had an extra key cut. I've lost the master key with the transponder inside and now am unable to start my car. I can get into it unlocking the doors using the key but the car refuses to start.

After days of reading up on this I'm left very confused as to what I can do. My options are;

Techstream - will not work without master key

Toyota smart key maker - will not work without master key

OBD2 programmer - again it will not work without a master key.

Is there any way to program a key without the master?

Many thanks!

I may be wrong and I sincerely hope I am, but I think at this stage the only thing left is to either get an auto-locksmith out who may be able to sort it or get it recovered to your local Lexus dealership.

Have an awful feeling this won't end well. I seem to think that an ECU on the car might have to be replaced to sort this. I know with some other makes this is done deliberately to cut down on the 'ringing' of stolen cars. again I hope i am wrong...

You could probably get someone to disable the immobiliser. I doubt it's super difficult for someone who knows what they're doing. Obviously it would leave the car less secure though, maybe use a steering lock?

Actually, not sure about Lexus but I read somewhere that BMW make a handful of spare keys for every car they make and keep them in storage. When I bought a new key for one of my BMWs from the dealer it came pre-programmed and just worked. Maybe Lexus can program a new key for you without needing a working master?
