TPMS Lit up on a Snowy Morning

Recommended Posts

Well 75 miles from home on the coldest day of the year jump into my car which has Been parked for 1 1/2 hours to find the TPMS light on and 4tyres showing 2.4 bars and one 1.9.

Now the car was serviced on Monday so it's all a bit odd. Bearing in mind the wheels were refurbished about 3weeks ago. Pull onto a nearby Asda forecourt and pump all tyres up to 2.5bar. It's snowing and 1 degree.

Drive on M54 to Shrewsbury a 20 minute drive and now 3 tyres are 2. 6 Bar and one is 2.4 bar. Decided to ring Cheltenham Lexus who advise me to call in. Arrive there at 3pm and car taken straight into workshop. 2hours later the news- The refurbished wheel on the rear nearside is leaking air around the valve . They have removed some excess paint but it still isn't sealing. They have managed to seal the leak using a standard valve. The car is booked in on 15th for the wheel to be refinished and I'm having a loan car.

I shall be keeping a very close eye on the pressure in that tyre during the interim period as the TPMS light is constantly on now.

I suspect that checking the pressures at service was enough to make the leak apparent.

Hey Ho.

Some Ford alloy wheels suffer the same problem, It happened on my Bmax.

This is the first time I've heard of it happening on a Lexus.

The problem lies with the company Lexus used to refurbish the wheels. The powder coating in the valve recess isn't totally flat.
