WANTED Please Lexus LS400 engine control ecu 89661-50250

Recommended Posts

This was a great read Phil and a great result for you.

I have a 1993 LS400 that seems to be suffering from a suspected ECU fault. It appears that the capacitors on the 1989-1994 models are prone to failure at some point.  I searched everywhere for a second hand ECU for mine but had no joy and at the moment it is currently with an ECU specialist.

Do you think an ECU from another 1993 LS400 would work? The problem I have is my LS is from Hong Kong and is a bit of a rare thing so it seems (has JDM lights on the back like the Celsior, but has all Lexus badges and steering wheel etc - but it does not have traction control or heated seats).

Its cost me an arm and a leg in labour just to find out the ECU is potentially the culprit, so I am hoping for a successful outcome with the ECU repair company.

Hi before you pay hundreds of pounds for an ECU or repair, send it to me I have spare Capacitors. and I will get my man to solder in a complete new set for you, for £50 Inclusive of parts just need to add postage cost.

If its like my original one and the board is damaged, the repair will not be possible, but really worth a look. up to you but the offer is there.

Whats your ECU No. 89661-?????

and I will have a look for an ECU for you too. I know how difficult it is

Regards

Thanks Phil for the offer.  My ECU is 89661-50180.  Unfortunately I am not sure how to tell if the board is damaged - I did open it up and had a peak but everything looked fine to me.

I have already sent it off and I will now need to wait and see what happens.  I will certainly report back the outcome.

I sincerely appreciate the help.

Thank you

Yes lets hope they can fix yours. I only found out my board was damaged after having new caps fitted and the car ran the same as before, its all trial and error, I think I have an ECU for a 94 in the shed, I could send it to you and you could try it, if you wish.

In the meantime I will continue to look for the right one for you, looks like its a rare one like mine

Regards

Phil

Thank you Phil again for your kind efforts.  If you are able to send the one you have I would be most grateful.  I would wait until the ECU repair folks have come back to me and just as a back up I could try both to see if they work.  As of yet I have not heard when its due to be looked at, all I know is they have it.

With regards to the capacitors, I have no idea how many there was.  I did read LSCowboy's post on club lexus and he mentioned that the capacitor quantity changed over the years.  I should have looked at that when I was looking inside the ECU.

Thank you Phil.

I actually just got a call an hour ago from the ECU repair firm who said they think they can repair mine. I asked what was wrong and he said the capacitors will probably need replacing as he found some minor leaking on the board. He mentioned he was going to get it under the microscope and test some other parts on it but felt confident enough and said it would be finished tomorrow and in the post tomorrow evening.  The bill came to £250 plus VAT.

I really appreciate your kind efforts in trying to help me out with your other ECU, but I think at the moment to save you any hassle I will wait until mine is back and see what happens when Lexus plug it back in.  Would this be ok?

Thanks for the link to Lextreme, that looks like a great site with loads of info on there!  I was actually thinking the other day how good it would be to have a turbo!!!
