I'm in!  (R129 SL)

Just one thought on your first 430. Finding an independent specialist is very worthwhile for your maintenance.  It is a complex beast,  and a guy who knows where the potential problems are and checks them out for you is invaluable.

Whilst I understand what you are meaning, having gone through all the emotions of trying to find faults before they occur, and asking my Indie what will require future work, I came to the conclusion to just “ enjoy” Each time I asked the question I was told nothing needed doing. They are complex beasts, but also extremely well constructed and reliable, so I do not think any check on a Lexus is invaluable, because if you just service them properly any fault will become obvious. When a fault does occur there are generally signs to then have them fixed. I am still coming to terms like us all probably that theses vehicles just go on and on. The only thing they must have is regular servicing , and as I read recently the LS was built to achieve 250,000 miles. So..........Enjoy

Ahem, as any Tom ***** or Partridge will tell you, the plural is Lexi

As a newbie, dare I question the accuracy of your assertion? 😉

Have you thought about a Celsior?  There are a few out there and you'll get low mileage and a generally rust free underbelly! You'll also more likely to get one well maintained.

No but I'll certainly investigate that as an option.

It's a brave man who will bandy words with Alan Partridge.

His sharp, devastating and generally acerbic insights have reduced many to tears.

Whether tears of joy or pain, I'm not sure....... :-)

and of course there's the Million mile Lexus if you want to check it out on vutube.

(prior owner of 230TE, 500SEC, 500SEL, 320 W140 but after that,Merc seemed to go downhill in terms of reliability and likely repair costs, though I still feel they have the edge in design style)   IMHO

It would be nice if we had a list of Lexus/Toyota independents.

In Suffolk I have found a terrific Mercedes specialist for my wife's car. He actually charged us 56 minutes labour at £65 an hour! How honest is that. I would suspect he knows more about Mercedes than any main dealer 'fitter'.

I had my lamda sensor fitted by a BMW specialist but they had a 'Japanese cars man' who did a great job at perhaps 35% what Lexus would charge. The Denso part was 45% what Lexus were asking.

An recommended independent list would really help.

We've got a guy here in West Sussex who is so knowledgeable that I'd be happy to recommend him, just as he was recommended to me by another member. He said he loves doing the LS cam belt!

I don't suppose anyone knows an indie in or around Peterborough.

I'm using the Toyota main dealer with all that entails.

and please don't forget about the non-service scheduled radiator item to prevent the gearbox going ' bang ' ......... inexpensive preventative maintenance only please rather than repair
