Hi peeps.

I have a Lexus GS300 - BHP: 209 Engine Code: 2JZGE Drive: Rear Wheel Drive Camshaft: DOHC JZS147 - 1993-1997

and about a month ago it failed the M.O.T.  It failed because of a rusty old mid section exhaust assembly, the part with the silencers. (Diagram attached)

For the past month I have being trying everything I can think of to get a replacement, from trawling ebay for scrap dealers to searching online for automotive companies. The only one I found turned out not to be in stock but they did kindly offer to get one directly from Lexus for over £1000 😒

My plea is this. Does anyone have or know how I can get hold of this item so I can get my lovely old girl back on the road, as so far it seems to be one of the rarest things on the planet.

Thanks.

Take a trip to Leeds where https://www.tonybanks.co.uk/ will do you a whole new system for a lot less than that. I'm sure there are other places, but he's the only one I've used.

He used to be a POWERFLOW franchisee I believe.

There'll be a PF place in Hampshire somewhere which someone might be able to recommend. My understanding is that they are only as good as the franchise holder.

Yes, just look for companies close to you who custom make stainless steel exhausts.

I used to have a Nissan Maxima QX and couldn't get an exhaust from anywhere except main dealers for somewhere between £800 and £900.

Found a company about 3 miles from where I live who measured every length, bend, flange, everything, and then replicated that in stainless steel. They gave a guarantee which was transferable to any new owners for the lifetime of the car and all for £349.99

The only trouble with a custom made exhaust is that I can't take her out on the road so they would have to come to me which I'm  not sure they would.

But thanks for the advice, at least there's some hope. :)

How far does it need to go? I recently had a car lifted and delivered 10 miles away fo £60.00

I might be wrong but as long as the exhaust isn't actually missing, aren't you allowed to drive it to a garage for a pre-booked appointment to get the repair done, or is that only to a pre-booked MOT station for the retest?

Already been there. According to them it is beyond repair.

I second the recommendation for Tony Banks, took my car there for a full manifold back system, very pleased with it:

I meant if you pre-book an appointment at a custom exhaust company to have the exhaust system replaced, would that come under the 'you can drive to a pre-arranged appointment at a garage to have the work done' scenario or is that just applicable to MOT and/or retest?

I don't know for sure, but I would think that to be highly unlikely.

I'm assuming it simply has to be gas tight to pass the M.O.T. and doesn't matter what it looks like, if so I'm tempted to just have a go at patching it up myself with Holt's Gun Gum etc., just to get it through.  This would then give me a year to get it sorted properly.
