1998 F20 LS400 VVTi - OBD2 compliant?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am getting a fuzzy picture on the OBD2 diagnostics capability of these vehicles. Can anyone break it down for me please:

Does the 1998 LS400 VVTi have a OBD2 port capable of using TORQUE or similar via a WiFi or BT interface?

Where is this OBD2 socket? Some say there might be two, different types on these cars?

Any advice appreciated

Regards

The 98 has an OBD2 port (95 or later have OBD2, earlier have OBD1).
Should be near the bonnet release lever with a cover over it. (Image is a left-hand drive car!!)

You should be able to get an ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 reader and access it with Torque via Bluetooth.

Is that really true?.  I heard that that was only in the USA where ODB2 was a requirement from Authorities.
Did not supply that in europe spec vehicles until later ?.  My Europe speced 1995   LS has the older type connector .

So for Mk4 1998 to 2000 it has ODB2 port also in europe? .
I just checked my 1998 mk4 .
Confirmed. It has a white connector marked ODB2 under the steering wheel.

I am sorry to dig this out again. I noticed a OBD2 like port in the engine bay, attached to one of the engine accessories.

Is this a variant or some other Toyota electrickery?

This is a UK model.

Many Thanks

IIRC the engine bay socket is the same as the internal one, this is to make it easier to diagnose engine bay faults rather than have to keep looking in the car for codes if plug inside the car socket.
