Condensation In Headlights Gs300 Mk2

Does anyone know how to get rid of condensation in the headlights of a GS300 Mk2? Mine has it in both the inner and outer units. The water droplets are mostly between the outer clear plastic and the silvered sections at the top and is impossible to reach. I do not want to buy new ones.

I got the same prob on one of mine on the IS,its so annoying

Dont know about the GS but im going to pull it apart(again) but not seal it up as well this time,i shall leave a air gap so it can circulate.

You might want to try to drill a tiny hole in the headlight (bottom corner) with the smallest drill bit you can get you hands to allow air in but not water. :winky:

or you just buy a new headlight :D

OR take out the bulb fitting and direct a hair drier on low setting into the hole, maybe by improvising a nozzle, but don't fill more than half the hole, then just leave it running, but keep an eye on it. the heat will vapourize the water and the through-put of air will clear it out of the bulb holder hole, eventually. let it cool down in a low humidity atmosphere, like leave the hair dryer running in the general area but not directed on the lamp fitting. then re-fit the bulb. then do it again next time it happens (wonder how the water gets in tho?)

Dont think its water its just a build up of condensation.

if it's condensation, which is likely, then damp air must be getting drawn in. and in sufficient quantities for it not to be evaporated out again. it smacks of a hole/gap low down in the light fitting, so that even when it is trying to be evaporated, it cannot get away cos warm air rises. so, i'll cure it on mine and then tell you what i did.

Inspiration point! mine is the nearside lamp. this is in the same enclosure as the outlet for the expansion overflow from the radiator, which is steam when it blows. could your headlamp be adjacent to the radiator expansion pipe? if it is, then extending the pipe so it doesn't evacuate into the void behind the headlamp may cure it. i'll let you know.

The lights on the Gs-2 are not sealed units - just take the bulbs out and put the car in the sun for a while.

You could also put a few silica gel crystals in there if you want to soak up the moisture
