I'm looking at the possibility of having front and rear parking sensors fitted to my wife's Honda Jazz (2005). Can't find any useful information on the Honda forums so thought I'd ask the good people here if they have any experience/knowledge of having them fitted to any make of car? I'd probably get a quote from the local Honda dealership and the indie we use for servicing or might it be better to find someone specialising in car electrics? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. it won't be a DIY job!

I've fitted parking sensors to various cars and it really is very easy, a job that anyone could do.  The ones that I fitted to the rear of my Celsior cost £19 and look identical to original ones.  I can't help thinking a decent mechanic might cost you less than a "specialist"

I assume you fitted a switch on the dash somewhere?

The kit from ebay did not have a switch. why would you require switch if your power supply was only active when ignition switched on ?

For the front sensors you need to be able to switch them off.  The rear sensors are activated when reverse is engaged but the fronts will be live all the time, that means they will bleep at everything around them, including people walking in front, stopping behind another vehicle, even passing parked cars, that can drive you nuts so you need to be able to turn them off. The switches are readily available, you can find them easily on eBay and they have the park assist image on them.

I sometimes wonder what all the fuss is with parking sensors, what did drivers do before these sensors came along?? I have the ones in my IS 250 f sport switched off and believe I am a capable enough driver to cope without them lol 😁

I agree to some extent but when I'm parking in places like London where space is limited, squeezing into that extra two inches can make all the difference.  And I find with my factory fit front sensors, which don't go off when I pass every blade of grass, that I get warning if the car in front starts to roll back.👍
