Catalytic Converter Problems

Recommended Posts

I have just had the catalytic converter stolen from my 2007 Lexus RX 400h and I am now having a big problem with my insurance company who will only pay half the price of an OEM part.

Does any one know if there is a relaible aftermarket part and if so where to get it and what the warranties are and does any one have any experience of an insurance company quoting a "pay an amount equal to the loss or damage" in the small print to justify a 50% "Betterment Contributioin".

Any help would be appreciated.

I would certainly fight this decision by your insurers. Point out there is no betterment and say you will appeal their decision to the ombudsman.

I have had experience of fighting these sort of matters and it is important not to weaken.

Good Luck

Betterment?

Are they expecting to fit a used part instead or something?

Nothing amazes me with insurance companies but that just sounds completely wrong.  Fight it best you can and let us know how it all pans out Ian.

Wishing you luck 👍

Les is quite right. Fight it and please tell us the name of the Insurance Company.

I have never, ever, known anyone having to replace their cat because it 'wore out'. They just keep on working for the whole life of the car (a catalyst is something which enables a reaction between other substances but which is not altered in any way itself) so an old one is just as good as a new one, ergo there can be no betterment.
