In person Tranny Fluid/filter change

Hi all,

New to this forum, great to be here. I am wanting to carry out a transmission fluid and filter change on my 2008 LS460 with 94k miles. Although I change my own oil and oil filter, I have never performed a transmission fluid and filter change myself on any car of mine. What I am after is someone who knows how to do this properly and will guide me through the steps in person. in a supervisory/training capacity. This is a more complicated job than an oil service but I still outright refuse to hand my car over to any mechanics as they usually say "leave the car with us" or "there's the waiting room." Not interested in any of that nonsense. I want to see the process myself from start to finish.

Would massively appreciate thoughts/suggestions or anyone willing to do this with me.

Many thanks...and long live Lexus!! :-)

Thanks Herbs.

I spoke to Lexus Stockport today and they said there is no filter to change only drain and fill. I don't believe that...they do have filters don't they?

Yes it has a filter but of course Lexus call it a “Valve Body Strainer.” Bit worrying that a Lexus dealer doesn’t appear to know though. Ring them back, ask them to look up the part number then ask the question again.

For some reason there are 2 drain plugs on the transmission sump handily referred to as No1 and No2 by Lexus, no idea as to why when one seems to suffice on my LS400.

Conventional method is to remove the drain plug(s) measure what comes out and then refill the same amount using fresh fluid then repeat 5-6 times to replace the majority of the fluid over a short period of time.

The problem may be refilling as I cannot see a conventional dip stick on this transmission, I am aware that some manufacturers require diagnostic equipment to set the levels and specialised tools to do the job.

Perhaps a case of going to a dealer for the job but perhaps not Stockport.
