Strange wiring

Recommended Posts

I have just had my English IS250 SE to my French Toyota garage for them to change the passenger airbag after a re-call.  Driving home I noticed a wire protruding from the dashboard, behind the steering wheel.  The end showing looks a bit like the end you put in a mobile phone to charge it.  Have pulled on it gently and the end I can't see appears to be attached to something.  I sent a photo to the garage, who didn't respond they never do, phoned and it would appear the technician was shown the photo and doesn't know what it is.  I have attached the photo to this (I hope).  Is this a wire that should be in the car?  Should the end showing be attached to something?  If so what?  (Everything seems to be working).  Thanks in advance to anybody who replies.

Have you owned the car from new? Could just be old handset wiring. I often come across it on my old motors.

But a bit blurry but the plug does look a bit like a 3.5mm Does your IS come with an aux socket to connect a music player or phone for music playback? If not could be someone had one fitted to the back of the head unit. Plug it in to your phone and see if you can play music. You'll probably need to select the input eg CD autochanger.

I agree looks like a 2.5mm jack plug for audio, maybe it was tucked behind the dash and the tech thought it was still in use so left it accessible. Wonder if he got into the passenger side and wondered where the steering was was 😀
