His number is in the PM I sent. Don't know about the trailering. I do know he backs onto an MOT station too that he uses and who are realistic about these older vehicles. Would it be within the spirit of the law for him to book you in there and you're travelling up the M1 for a test?

You should also have a list/print out of the codes read by the dealer. Handy to have.

I think you would be within the law if you drive to an appointment at a specialist repairer and he then takes the car in to an appointment at an MoT place. The appointment bit is crucial.

You could check with your insurer and the police, but of course if they say no. you're stuffed.

Funny story:

Some time ago (and I had forgotten this until recently) I bought a new fuel cap from Toyota/Lexus. Dug it out today to see if it would resolve management light issue (possible EVAP issue). A couple of days ago I spoke to the main dealer's twelve year old service-techie about the possible cap issue, after all it is a well known fault. Really, no never heard of that, so not a common fault to this highly trained tech sort.

Anyway I digress, hilariously as although the cap won't fit as they sold me a bayonet rather than a screw fitting, it has printed on it:

"NOTE: Tighten cap until clicks, or Malfunction Indicator Lamp may come on."

You couldn't make it up!

Anyway I have a brand new OEM cap, part number 77300-33070 going spare if anyone wants it for postage and an optional fiver to the RNIB.

UPDATE: Car's being trailered up north to a specialist next week. I refuse to scrap such a brilliant car without exploring every avenue

That's all folks..... 🙂

UPDATE: Coolmobile, for that is her name, was yesterday rushed by private ambulance to  see a specialist.

She is currently in intensive care.

We await news of her (hopefully) speedy recovery 🙂

Keep the Bulletins coming Ian. She has more friends than she realises.

Certainly has. Criminal that these cars are effectively forced off the road.

In this case Richie, possibly forced off the road because its owner (Ian) didn`t want to attend to the initial problem in the way in which he now wishes he had?

You'll have to explain that one to me.....

Perhaps you will explain your comment to me because I haven't  got a clue why you should say such a thing.

I left the MB board after many years because of sarky opinionated idiots.

I have to say, I have never experienced any such behaviour on this board.

So, I'll be grown up, and will wait to see how you justify, what is in my opinion, an extraordinary and unpleasant statement.

Very sorry Ian I had no wish to offend you.I built up a lot of respect for your contributions on the MB Forum.

I will withdraw the remark as you have clearly received it in a manner which I had not intended.

Best wishes.

Is there a Mod that can tell me what's going on here?

Yesterday John apologised for above post and deleted it. And today, like Lazarus, it's here again.

Several of my posts however are not....

Not sure what happened Ian but I've made all comments visible again 🙂 Yell me if you need to

For the avoidance of doubt or misunderstanding.........I had no intention of offending anyone and immediately withdrew my contribution when it was queried by Ian.

Ian accepted my apology and he deemed the matter closed.

The matter remains closed.

I think there was some confusion which appears now to have been resolved, although it would appear that the original post has also been re-posted.

Looked for a popcorn smilie but I couldn't find one. And anyway, I think it's safe to comment again

So I saw Ian's 430 in the flesh on Friday. If he wants to share the ins and outs of what's getting done then that's up to him. Suffice to say, I don't thing the old girl is getting scrapped just yet

However, I may slip Dave a few quid and get him to tell Ian it's beyond repair.

Who can trust a man who lusts after another man's new wheels......😮

More seriously, I'm confident that the probelem that two sets of main dealers have not been able to resolve will be resolved. When it is, I shall have great pleasure in advising both main dealers what it was they missed.

I shall of course let everyone on here know first 🙂

Looks like @rich1068‘s man oop north has delivered the goods. Coolmobile has a shiny new MoT and a few other wee bits. The actual EML issue that two main dealers could not resolve, was basically a dodgy connection around the nox sensor caused br some of rodent friends who share our field.  She’ll be back home in few days. 😀😀😀

Funny you should mention rodents as I went to view a car the other day for my son and upon opening the bonnet it was a no-goer!

The rest of the car was sweet but there was no way I was gonna chance finding any immediate  unseen damage that may have been done by Mickey and his friends to for example the wiring loom, hoses or anything else that tastes real good in the mouse world!

If Ian doesn't mind me adding to this I've been over to Dave's two or three times since his car got there. Mainly to pry off bits of valuable trim when no one is looking but also to observe progress. Dave was fairly confident from the start that rodents were involved and once the bonnet was up the evidence was there to see. He'd come across this before and apparently they like to nest in the V where it's warm! It also smelled a bit

Anyhoo, great news that the GS lives to fight another day!
