Windscreen replacement

Driving on the A1 for a few days away during half term and stone chips soon turns into a full 12 inch crack. It didn’t seem that the stone hit that hard, I’ve had much worse on the works Astra which chipped but was simply repaired. Are these Lexus screens more fragile than others?  also, anything to look out for or is it a case of calling  auto glass and get it replaced. The car is IS300H 2105 exec. Thanks

Make sure the rain sensing wipers and dimming rear view mirror still work when they have replaced the screen.

I had national windscreens replace mine last week.
Gave them the reg number and they had the correct screen supplied, and it was a genuine one as well [emoji106]
Don’t forget to get new wipers when you have your screen done

I have now had my screen replaced 4 times due to cracking since buying the car new in 2013 I have a IS300h Premier.  The first time it happened after I turned the volume up full on the ML audio system whilst listening to Abacab by Genesis and a 2 foot long crack appeared with a bang!. Just make sure you get an original OEM part as the third party replacement glass may not be suitable, for instance I have the auto high beam and Lane keep assist camera and the first glass which came did not have the gap for the camera. I think the glass is fragile as in the 30 years of driving before I had my IS300h  I only had one screen replacement, I drive approx 25k per year. I used Autowindscreens (other glass replacement services are available!).

I would advise strongly that you do not play the final movement of the 1812 Overture whilst in the car, then Michael !

Had auto glass replace the screen, however auto lights didn’t work. I’ve been told to drive it and will reset itself, not sure if that true, but I’ll find out soon enough when I can take it fir a drive.

Auto lights aren’t controlled by anything on the windscreen, the sensor for the lights is on the dashboard on the passenger side.

They haven’t switched the auto lights off have they?

Hi guys,

I need to replace my Lexus windscreen as well, and the 1st windscreen ever.

When I told the guy from AutoGlass that I wanted a genuine one, he just pretended that didn't understand what I was talking about.

Are they bound to providing a genuine windscreen? Or whatever fits my car? How do I know that is genuine? Does it still have the Lexus logo as it has the present one at the bottom left corner?

I'm doing all my services, MOT's and all repairs with Lexus and I want to keep providing everything genuine...

Could you give some advice, please

Lexus Toyota do NOT make glass ……. in the UK there  might well be good stock of your specific windscreen and your insurer, presuming it’s being replaced under that cover, will direct their usual supplier to provide …… be it Autoglass or whatever …… they will provide and properly fit and adjust everything correctly in accord with their professional obligation to their paymaster ……. You or your Insurer …… worry not, all should be ok 

They’ll probably provide a Lexus Toyota embossed screen if one’s available in stock

A couple of years back I had to have the screen in my RC300h replaced, through my insurer. It took a few weeks to source a screen and in the end it came from Lexus.EU. It was a "genuine" Lexus screen and the tech that did the change explained there weren't enough RC models in the UK to have a stock here and he wasn't aware of any pattern screens either.

Obviously car manufacturers don't make their windscreens but they do set the standards for their screens. When I looked to change the screen on my Mercedes I had a very interesting chat with the manager of our local Autoglass centre. He confirmed that genuine and pattern screens came from the same source, the only difference was the 'genuine' screens met a higher quality standard. Pattern screens may be those that don't quite meet all the quality requirements of the car manufacturer or are made to a lesser specification. Only those screens that meet all the required specs are engraved with the car manufacturer's logos etc..

I replaced my is300h windscreen last year via Autoglass (as they are the preferred partner for esure) and I specially requested for an OEM windscreen.

I made the booking on the 6th March and it took 2 months for it to be fitted! The requirement for OEM also meant that it can only be fitted at the service centre and not on my driveway. In the end the Croydon centre did a good job and no issues.

Interesting, as mine was fitted on my driveway with no concerns. I did have to then book the car into my Lexus dealership to have the ADAS recalibrated. Incidentally Lexus don't do this themselves and the car was taken to a specialist workshop. It took 2 days to complete...

I am now on my third windscreen after 2 'failures' within the first 2 years of ownership where nothing significant  appeared to hit my screen. Both of my screens had to be fitted at the service centre due to the recalibration needing done, the second one being non oem. Also the non oem screen has now lasted by far the longest out of the 3 screens so i wouldnt worry about specifying an OEM one.

Im more concerned why these screens seem to break so easily bearing in mind i roll along to work and back at 56-60mph on a straight road with light to no traffic and never close enough to the car in front to catch any crap it throws up. On the flip side my Integra-R, now on over 200k miles is still on its 26 year old original Oem windscreen, probably spends 90% of the time over 60mph and sits much lower than the lexus. Also the integra-r windscreen is significantly thinner than a standard integra screen, so i can only conclude they dont make windscreens like they used to.

there's just too much detritus lying around these days for any vehicle to throw up and hit one's car ........... even small speeds collect the crud ......  the rules of allowing stones whatever to escape from trucks etc need to be enforced more maybe  ..........  more cars, more trucks with earth stones whatever and inevitably there's smashed glass   🤑

I’m the OP and so far the auto glass screen is fine, been a few years now. Can’t remember how the lights were fixed, I think they just started working.

What does bugs me are councils not laying proper roads, around our way no final hot tarmac is applied, they simply leave the gravel and allow the stones to be pressed in by the traffic, they have a 20 mph speed limit for ages. Van’s or cars who don’t care, speed past as stones fly everywhere, lots of damaged cars, reported to council they don’t care as too expensive to finish roads properly, they don’t have the cash, they say can’t do anything about speeders. Roads also horrible to drive on!

I've just spoken with Autoglass for the last 29 min, and they reassured me that even the non-OEM glass has the rain sensors and heating elements, they supply windscreens for the car dealers as well, ....

Still couldn't get in touch with my insurer to approve the OEM glass...😬

I've had two new windscreens fitted to my IS 300h over the years - neither Lexus branded - both have performed the same as the original OEM screen in both the sensors and noise. TBH the bigger issue is how good the fitters are...!

I had a non OEM windscreen fitted by Autoglass two years ago. Work was carried out at my home. No problems with the new screen, everything works as before and the quality of the work was excellent.

I've finally got my windscreen replaced.

Everything was great. They said it would take 2.5 hours, but the guy fitted in one hour.

Everything is in the right place, sensors and heating working too.

I gave up fighting for an OEM one after reading your advice. 

So thank you guys!!!!
