Good evening everyone ,I've just been looking at the Lexus servicing and what you actually get for your money .Rx450h relevant service sheet items replaced and check. And I find it quite shocking you basically get a glorified oil and filter change and a look at round your car .i would personally think this would take all of 45-60minutes getting the car onto the ramp doing the service then back down plug in laptop to test hybrid then back into the car park . Bearing in mind they do these all day long . Now I know a lot of you are the Lexus hardcore through and through but I remember what lexus and toyota used to do for your money in the late 1980s .im just shocked bearing in mind I used to work on Lexus and toyota at a main dealer .***** I used to remove bloody calipers to check pins clean up hubs change all fluids every 24 months etc and rotate wheels personally speak to customers .Rant over

Yep, service cost is crazy at the dealer, mine would be around £540-580! I bought all required items for a service from Lexus Glasgow and changed it at BMW garage where friend of mine works. Saved probably 70% of money!

But if you want Lexus warranty you must have service done with them and most do for a stamp in the book!

All true Vlad, but to balance the equation;

Lexus offer reduced cost servicing for older vehicles. Essential Care for vehicles over 5 years old. This includes a small number of MOT`s and a free Hybrid Health Check.

A Service Contract so one can pay monthly. This is interest free and a fixed monthly cost and preserves the Lexus Extended Warranty.

One pays one`s money and makes one`s choice.

I will have the servicing done at lexus .its like meeting a new partner you have to take on the inlaws as well with gritted teeth lol.

To be fair the same could be the same of most premium vehicles and associated stealers. Obviously there comes a time when you cut that umbilical cord and go solo.

The hybrid issue complicates things however, almost forcing you into a corner if you want to sell it on.

Lexus servicing is bloody expensive, even with a service plan. Sadly its one of those things we need to factor in when buying.

I went to Lexus for servicing my old RX 400 after going to an independent and finding there wasn’t much in it, and I got a Lexus loan car too.. having said this if I changed to a newer RX I would most likely go independent

Usually it's the other way round ie owners with new or near new go to Lexus whereas after a few years they try to save by going elsewhere.

And there I was thinking that with your experience and the high price you agree Lexus charge for servicing, you might be setting up as an independent, maybe offering members here a good rate!!

I have found if you look at the difference between an intermediate service, and a full service for my GS, and my Prius it boils down to a few extra checks "not work done". Invariably anything found in the checks is at extra cost. Lots of the items on the bloated service sheet have anything to do with your car, but it looks impressive. When was the last time you saw a grease nipple on a prop shaft or ball joint. Antifreeze lasts for 10 years or 120,000 miles. transmission fluid is not changed
These checks are all what I call look see's. An MOT covers all these "Look see's" only in greater depth. I only have intermediate service "as already stated basically an oil, and filter change" along side an MOT covering everything in a full service. The book still gets stamped.

Unless the care is under guarantee or extended one there is nothing to be gained from a load of dealers stamps in the book when it comes to part exing the car. You will not get £1000 more because of service stamps the cost of perhaps two of them. Selling privately it might make the car more sale able, but a log book of all work carried out with parts receipts, dates, and MOT certs will impress just as much.

Three years ago I was informed that I needed a new engine coolant pump as the coolant was below the high mark. This was not topped up in the service but left "low". I topped up the coolant when I got home, and I have not had to top it up since or changed the pump that is not noisy or have any play in the bearings in 40,000 miles. Lexus Wolverhampton.

I do agree with you if the car was the rx350 model it would not be going to lexus .but due to the hybrid system .i know only only too well the system would go pop and with out all the specialist equipment a workshop /ramp etc it makes it a pain in the arse .working full time doesn't help I'm afraid this is the future of cars costly little buggers to fix .i can understand the pcp way of things rag it and just use the cheapest garage for servicing .

I had originally booked my car in for its 110K service with Lexus, Glasgow.  You're right it's basically an oil and change with an overall check.  I changed the full service to just the hybrid service - saving nigh on £200 - and they did the overall check anyway, presenting me with a proposed invoice for £586!!  My mechanic (German car specialist) did the work quoted by Lexus and the service for less than £300!!
