Road trip

Recommended Posts

Completed a little road trip today 609.3mls from north east Scotland to east Surrey and returned a pretty good MPG figure,

29.1mpg

not bad considering I was in sports + mode with throttle commander set high and valves open on exhaust system..
and wasn’t exactly hanging about

I'm not surprised, I did a long run and got similar although I use mine mainly for blasting around our local A roads in Sports+ and manual and get about 20

when I do good long trips like that I usually return about 30mpg and that's in my old and ancient 4ltr monster with 225k miles on the clock

Mind you it always performs better like this and when  fully loaded and at the speed limit, continually rolling along an M'way until the next traffic jam :no2:

I've been surprised with our GS as thought it would be thirty, not the sporty one just the 2.5 but we got 44 mpg on a long trip from Yorkshire driving around the speed limit, but we were stuck in traffic for quiet a bit which probably affected it. We had a diesel CRV and it used to struggle to get 30mpg most of the time.

My RCF appears to do better than both my wifes XC60 2.0 T5 and our (ok slightly old) 05 RX300.

Shes costing me about £12 extra per commute (midlands to london return) than my 2.0 turbo Alfa Giulia Veloce.

Worth every penny imho

Interesting you said old on the T5 We ran a Passat 2008 diesel as a spare car which my son now has. The car did and still does 50mpg plus even if you drive it hard on soft driving it would do even more.

From experience newer diesels do not seem to be able to match the economy of the old ones. I used to work for a large transport firm when new lorry emission standards started the big vehicles were about 10% worse on MPG but lower on emissions Go figure

Sorry, the T5 is the brand new XC60, it averages just over 30 mpg.

The old bit I was referring to was our 05 RX300.

Apologies for any confusion.
