Hello all I am new to the forum after looking in for a while before buying my Rx 400h 2006 vehicle I hate to be asking for help on my first post but I took the drivers side rear wheel off to check the brakes over and noticed this in the attached photo and wondered if it was important or not as the car is running great apart from a engine light on which I`ve had read and is pointing toward a exhaust sensor ? anyway if anyone could help I`d be very appreciative thank you .

Hello Michael welcome to LOC.
The part that is broken is the operating rod for both headlamp auto levelling, and if you have it suspension ride height adjustment. The broken rod cannot be bought separately to the rest of the mechanism costing around £185. It is not difficult to make one from sum threaded rod, and ball joints available on eBay for very little money.

Beat me to it

:edit:

Could this be the cause of your check light? Have you had the codes read properly?

I should have added the reason for it braeking is that the cups seize onto the balls, and will not rotate as the suspension moves. Check the other side of the car, and the front. It maybe that there will only be one other on the front passengers side, and lubricate the joints to stop this repeating else ware.

Sorry Richard I had the codes read by a local garage but it was only a basic laptop system he had he was supposed to be getting a gent in who has the correct reader but that was a month ago he said it was coming up with a sensor on the exhaust but with his basic reader he didn`t know if it was anything to do with the catalytic converter so didn`t want to order a sensor if it wasn`t that ? , I just haven`t got back round to sorting it especially as the car is running so well I will have to find someone myself with the correct reader

could be a coincidence about the broken rod and another sensor.and that you have two separate problems.  The best system seems to be Techstream  to which I believe access can be bought for a fixed period.  The alternative is to buy a Chinese alternative and the necessary cable unless of course you have LEXUS  check it out..
