no sound on radio

funny thing happened on the way to work this morning , the sound stopped on the radio , almost like a mute button had been pressed .the indication is that the radio is on ,put a cd in and the player indicates that it is playing , but again no sound.at the time my phone was not connected so no mute there.have tried to turn radio off and on , no joy ,anybody any ideas.Happy New Year to everybody.

I had the same issue with my previous car (IS300h), I removed the amp and sent it off for repair, however the amp wasn't broken. I also took my car to a local car audio specialist and he struggled to diagnose the problem. For no apparent reason it started working again and a few weeks later I sold the car.

This sounds exactly like the same as when my amplifier packed on my 430 - the audio system appeared to work as it should apart from no sound. I also did not have the beeps when temperature control arrows were pressed - this was diagnosed as power supply failure within the amp and repaired by SVT mentioned above

The LS430 also has separate fuse for the amp - might be worth checking this on your car

if your handy with the soldering iron you could have a look at the power supply

as it is generally the electrolytic capacitor that fail , you'll know when the capacitor has failed

as the top will of popped and become rounded there is normally a line or cross

in the top this allows for the cap to become rounded, capacitors cost about £0.60 each

so a cheap fix if you can do it yourself.

you will know what to buy as on the side there will be some txt like 150uf 25v

150 microfarads @ 25volts when fitting them they have a positive & negative leg

so you just need to make sure positive goes to positive & negative to negative

take a photo before you remove them so you know the orientation.

thanks all , back to work tomorrow so will remove amp and also check fuses , found a load of info online for fuse location but there is so many different diagrams i will need to have a look at the car so i can work out which fuse box i have.

You should not have cap failure in such a low usage item like a car amplifier and considering Lexus’s/Pioneers design reliability.

i agree with you martin they shouldn't fail but

electronic components will either last forever or fail relatively early on.

in my garage i have a philips streamium music system and one day

for no apparent reason it wouldn't turn on i had to purchase a power supply

capacitor repair set to fix the issue.

May I ask where (exactly) your amp is situated. Mine is a is300h 2013 and the local radio /amp installer outfit couldnt find mine with the car in bit for an entire day. They claim they even called lexus and it was not located on the rear right side either.

So they did half the job of installing new speakers and an amp. They could change the amp because they couldn't find it.

Since I've had the car back I lost the will to route around myself and find it. Any pointers would be welcomed to its actual real location.

Hi Ian

The amp is located in the rear right wheel arch area. I removed the boot trim, removed the plastic Battery cooling pipe and then was able to access the amp. The amp is fasterned to a bracket, took approx 30mins the first time I removed it.

Thanks for that info. I sure they told me that they called lexus who said it was located where you said too.

My guess is they didn't look hard enough by the sound of it.

To be honest I've given them enough time in the past and can't be giving up the car again for perhaps the same outcome.

I'll be doing the job now. Which I should have done to begin with but didn't want the hassle.

If you follow this tutorial, you'll get visibility of the amp.

Did anyone find or solve this issue? I have just collected my is300h and this happened to me today. Except the sound came back on after a while. Happened twice in an hour long journey.
