Parking Sensor Issue

There is a button on mine located to the right of the steering wheel but lower down  on the dashboard. Marked P. If I press that the parking sensors are disabled and the P light disappears from the instrument cluster. They definitely don’t work until the button is pressed again. Glad I wasn’t  going mad 😀

Thanks - I need to check for this, though I did look before and couldn't find anything I thought was "P"-related! 😊 - which I had thought was odd at the time!

I had a couple of days with front centre right sensor triggering after a very wet drive which included a gravel trackway with big puddles (negotiated at a sensible speed), mentioned it as the car went in for service and the dealer confirmed that the ECU had recorded the sensor error. They replaced the sensor under warranty.

If one is pretty sure Paul, then one definitely has. And it can be a blessing in many ways, as I`m sure will come to pass.

Hi everyone, I have lexus nx300h  2018, it showing triangle with this message "parking assist malfunction visit your dealership".  1st common thought was to find a faulty sensor which isn't the case. then we checked the wiring looms which seems fine, only thing is front radar left which I think nothing to do with this fault. banging my head not sure what else to check??? anyone can help or provide technical solution what else to do.

I have had 5 Lexus this could be my last and go back to Mercedes.

This Nx I’ve had for two years now out of the 24 months Lexus have had the 2018 for seven of those months trying to rectify the parking sensors also radar faults. This time it came back I believe it was cured , but no unfortunately bang clean sensors pops up.

I paid £46000 for this the car is always very clean my works Ford vans completely filthy for where they have to go we never have any problems with their parking sensors .

I believe we should have full warranty on these cars until Lexus can fix the problem or a brand new car when they have a new system that works.

Which ever way really really fed up love the car hate the Lexus response to us all.

Sorry to hear that you have had these issues. Have you tried the "Vaseline" fix as described earlier in this thread? It's very simple and unlikely to damage anything. Our NX is still OK after application in December 2019.

Lexus have made 4 attempts to resolve the issue, resucuring the front number plate and making adjustments to the software, Lexus Cardiff have stated that they have seen the issue on other cars and applied a repair that they had used before but with no resolution. Has anyone else had a similar experiance?

Parking Sensor issue...    So on my second service I mentioned the issue to the service reception again..   I was told, 'it is  known issue and that Lexus are aware of it but it was inherent in the model'    Well, that's was a red flag to me.   I then wrote to customer relations at Lexus through the Lexus website indicating my dismay at my buying an inherent issue!  I received a phone call from Lexus UK customer relations saying I would receive a call from the after-sales manager at my Lexus dealership, I did too..    so my car goes in tomorrow for ALL front sensors to be replaced... (where the issue shows as being the problem) and the car is going to software updated with latest info from manufacturing..   so lets see if works and I don't have parking sensor issues indicated while in the outside of our local motorway systems in the future

Totally agree with your perspective!!! Well done, I wonder if there is really a software update that works for it!?

This is a comment I posted to another thread a while back and which might be of interest. It is old, but I think it may still be relevant.
The incident I am referring to was related to the clear coat, but I am told that wax or similar could cause the same issue.

I had a similar problem with an RX back in 2015.

This is the feedback I got from the dealer at the time, which may be of interest:

The sensors are made of three main parts. An outer ring, a small disc (the sensor), and in between a rubber ring. The sensor works in a way that similar to a sonar, sending and receiving sound waves. The rubber ring around it allows the sensor to register the tiny vibrations from incoming sound waves. When the 3G glass coat (clear coat protection) was applied to my car, it was also applied over the sensors and surrounding rubber ring. Over time, the 3G glass coat hardened to such an extent that the rubber ring became completely rigid, thus preventing any kind of movement., hence confusing the system.

The sensors were removed, dismantled and thoroughly cleaned so as to remove all trace of the clear coat, and then re-installed.

No problem was experienced after this.

I have NX 300 , 2019. Today first time "sensor assist unavailable" yellow light went on, but disappeared after 5 min drive. I will check out this with dealer at next service. If persist will try "Vaseline fix". At first I thought my sensors got some dirt and only cleaning will be enough. Now,  after reading all comments it looks like there is some systemic issue with sensors or software.

I am in this exact same situation right now with my 2019 Lexus RX FSport.

They have replaced all the front sensors, the circuit board (I think that's what he called it) and the problem still exists. 

I was just told they think it is a software problem but the software to fix it IS NOT EVEN WRITTEN YET!!! Estimating 9-12 months before they come up with a solution.

Lexus corporate has gotten involved. They even flew someone in that wrote the program to collect data from my vehicle. 

Lexus is not volunteering to buy the vehicle back. 

Anyone initiate a Lemon Law buy back??

All I can say in response to my initial comment about faulty sensor issues, was that the service assistant on the desk was very matter of fact that it was a common problem..!  Not my problem I thought, so being given so much negativity I contact Lexus UK customer relations, I then had a series of phone calls and my car ended up back in service and all the sensors and another software update..   fault never happened since..

I bought a used 2018 NX F Sport from a Lexus dealer 9 months ago and this fault appeared last month, it got a software update today, however I was told that if that did not work I would need to pay for replacement sensors as my warranty is invalid. This is due to the last service being carried out to Lexus standards by a premium specialist which is closer to me than any dealership, even though this is a known fault and the service is irrelevant to the fault. I have had 4 new Lexus cars plus this used model from Lexus Edinburgh since 2014, this will be my last!

Is the car still under Lexus original 3 year warranty or is it a used car warranty?

If it is the original 3 year warranty then I can see no reason why it wouldn't be covered,  the service has been carried out to Lexus specs with original Lexus parts I take it?

Unfortunately it’s over 3 years, it came with a 12 month used warranty however according to Lexus it’s not the same as a manufacturer warranty ( unless serviced by Lexus ). I will continue this though as it’s a known fault with the car.

I would push it as far as you can if its a known fault.👍 The only thing going against you is this non Lexus service, what does it say in the used car warranty terms?

Had similar problem with front corner sensors on my RX450h. The cause was that the parking sensors were installed with sockets up, and water drops slid by the wires i side bypassing seals. Once in the socket, the trapped water created oxidation.

Fixed by removing the sensors (via wheel arches by partly unwinding the arch cover), cleaning the oxidation and re-installing sensors with sockets down. Disconnect the 12v Battery while working on the electronics.

It's very simple. you dry off the sensors and you just smear a very small amount of Vaseline over them. Wipe off any excess.

It's still working for me (fingers crossed).

Have taken a note of this fix Only had this warning come up once  But thanks for that information Malcom
